Adobe Audition recording mono with new card??

I just purchased a behringer ub1204 mixer and a delta 44 and I have everything hooked up to start recording. I have been previously recording straight into the default sound card with no set backs. I was just doing some test recordings to compare my "new and improved" sound with my old recordings.

Mic > Input 1 on Mixer > Main out from Mixer > Input 1 on Delta 44
Here is the question:

When I record, it only records mono (left channel). Also, it is recording audio but when I try and play back what I just recorded I hear nothing.

*Note
(I can hear audio from previously recorded Adobe Audition sessions when I used my old sound card.)

Well I have slept since my last post, and as soon as I woke up I knew what was wrong. I went into the studio room, unplugged the cable, and sure enough it was only a mono end. I didn't think I owned any mono end cables.

Anyways, I am still having the problem with AA not playing back my recordings I made. To clarify, the Delta 44 will play back audio from Adobe Audition but it will not play back any new recordings I have made using the Delta 44. That sounds confusing, but I hope I am making sense.

I was pissed off at a video game one night and my lil bro taught me to set it down, go to bed and play the part as soon as I wake up, and then I would pass it...Well I found this to be true in all troubleshooting applications...go to bed wake up and take a pass at it...most times you'll figure it out.

ANYHOW...Check your "DEVICE ORDER" under the OPTIONS menu...click on the playback tab and make sure whatever card (the Delta) is supposed to playback your recording is listed FIRST in the device order...If it is also supposed to be used in you're editing window....click on the "USE IN EV" button...

Let us know if this helps

Remember that your Delta 44 inputs 1 and 2 are basically a stereo pair, as well as 3 and 4. Each of the 4 inputs is a mono input.

If you're recording from just 1 mic, then this is OK. If you need to record in stereo, then you'll need to attach both the L and R main outs of your mixer (assuming that the main outs are the correct ones to use) to inputs 1 and 2 or inputs 3 and 4 of your Delta.

As for your playback problem, which card are you using to listen to playback? If its the Delta, make sure that you have the proper connections coming from the outputs of the Delta (same goes for the outs as did for the ins...they're 2 sets of stereo pairs. You'll need 1/4" connections coming from both outs 1 and 2 or both 3 and 4.)

In the Delta patchbay/router, for outs 1/2 (assuming these are the outs you are using), assign it to monitor mixer if you want to listen to everything that's being sent to the card, or wave out if you want to hear everything that your mixing software is playing back (plus all of the other sounds that your computer makes).

If you're NOT using the Delta to listen to playback, then just go to device settings in audition and select whichever card you have your speakers plugged in to.

I am using the Delta as my playback card. I have a rca>1/4 cable going from my amp to the #2 out on my delta 44.
I can hear audio using the delta 44 on everything(cd's, internet, previously recorded AA sessions etc...) exept what I record a track on AA and try to play it back. When I playback the audio in AA I can even see the wave out1/2 volume bar on the M-Audio control panel shoot up and down but I hear nothing.

On the monitor mixer tab the only way I hear a session on AA is if I have Wave Out1/2 checked. If I assign monitor mixer I hear nothing.

Alright. I got my recordings to play back but this is how i did it. When I record it records in mono, so i copied the left chanel (on adobe) and pasted it on the right chanel and then it would playback.

Why is that?? Now I am thourougly confused.

So I take it you are not monitering in stereo then as using output #2 will only give you one channel of audio coming out of AA.

Moniter mixer is for listening to the incoming signals while recording. Meaning that it will route the signal of what ever you have going in the inputs of the Delta directly to the outputs of the Delta as well.

After you record a track in AA you need to first dissable the record option, then assign it to an output of the Delta. Remember that if you are recording in through only one of the Deltas inputs it is only a mono and you would need to adjust its panning in AA so it will playback on both the left and right channel's.

But if you are only using output 2 of the Delta going to a single output of an amp, then you are only getting a mono signal out anyway.

Hope this helps steer ya in the right direction.
ask away if ya got any more questions on this.

something I learned is that u should be recording in mono anyway.. the final nix down can be stereo but its best if record in mono. You shouldnt have to cut and past the left channel to the right. which I was doing for a while.

In AA to do so, do the following.

OPTIONS TO SETTINGS TO MULTITRACK

at the tab you will see something say DEFAULTS "TRACK RECORD" if its on stereo put it on mono.

alot of the time, people try recording in stereo, and it comes out mono but only works thru one speaker.

but if u change ur settings from stereo to mono then when you record, sound will come out fo both speakers.

wow that was confusings and hard to explain
