Sonic Foundry Vegas Crashing!!!

I have recently shifted to Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video/Audio 3.0 for my Multitrack Recording needs because it gels very nicely with Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge 5.0

Anyway, the problem I'm having is that it's crashing a lot on my Windows XP Professional. Anyone else having a similar problem? Anyone know how to counter it?

Ahmed.

I use Vegas Video 3 and the only time I crash is when I use some beta drivers that are being developed for my primary sound card. What sound card are you using and do you have the latest version updates for Vegas 3.0a? I believe is the newest.

Actually, since putting in Windows XP, Vegas has been giving me more problems, and I have been reading the same on some other message forums, so I dunno, I have downloaded the latest update and install it tonight and see if it helps me.

what sound card are you using? I am curious, as I took one of my soundcards out and it is working great now...

also .. just out of curiousity.. i havent had the need to try and fix any xp problems yet.. but i noticed the option to let xp emulate another os to run programs. would/does this work?

As I understand it that emulation is for really old programs, Vegas should run in XP fine, it is on my machine as well as any semi-modern app, collapse, if I recall you use the current versions of your software (Acid, FruityLoops and Sound Forge) which should run fine on XP SOund Forge and FruityLoops are running fine for me, I don't have Acid so I can't verfiy that one, but I am betting Acid and Vegas are pretty similar apps... I don't think it was Vegas' update that helped me butmore getting rid of that other sound card.

Ahmed, did you do a clean install of XP or did you upgrade from 98? I have read some horror stories from people upgrading from 98 to XP having some issues, I went from ME to XP without any major probs, but I did then format and do a clean install more for peace of mind than any bug fixing.

correct. acid, soundforge, fruityloops.. they all work beautifully. i suspect the soundcard is the problem too if hes got more than 1. dunno about that emulation ability. i always thought that was a strange feature.

id clean install all the way. i went ME -> XP with a format and install and it went very smoothly. if you got the time and a way to back up all your stuff, id give it a go.

Yes, XP has given me very little trouble, I am personally quite happy with it as well right now...but time will tell, I was happy with 95 at first too...and 98...and ME...and 2000...ARGH!
