hey i just saw a potentially GREAT one at bn the other day. it showed you a bit about how to start perceiving audio from an engineering perspective. rather than just showing about twisting dials, it had some exercises for identifying frequency bands/volumes/densities. and a lot of other useful-like things. i have no idea what it was called or who it was by. it was softcover. and shiny. and had a picture of some kind.

Shure microphone site has a number of real informative pdf downloads for mic placement/usage/tricks and traps. Ozone will let you download their manual on mastering software that although for their software has a lot of very good information. I have done searchs on specific microphone arrays and got a lot of "white paper" technical information that was great. All free for the download.

In the link above that dB gave, I recomend the Home Recording Power book. There is an entire series of Power books that pertain to almost any software out there now.

But that particular book has so much info in it for the home recordist, and beyond. If you havent read any books regarding recording I suggest starting there as it really dive deep into what you need to know.
