M-Audio has a unit called the Firewire 410 that I use. I'm afraid I'm not yet THAT well versed with it to offer seriously specific performance details on it, but so far it's worked fine for me. It has two preamped inputs and an additional two without (I believe only two can be used at the same time). Additionally, I believe it has optical and adat ins and outs. I'd check the M-Audio site for more specific info. Best of luck!

www.esi-pro.com also has some pretty sweet devices, and many add on cards with different options for ins and outs, might be worth a look.

ESI has a great firewire unit www.esi-pro.com/viewProduct.php?pid=16

The specs are excellant and it is getting rave reviews. And the price is a big factor. Just had a new driver release so it is up to snuff with windows .

looked at it, i guess i really did not specify, i need a firewire input all by itself, that is all it needs to do, firewire. cause I have 2 items now that have firewire outputs on them, the DM-24(24 audio inputs with the digimax LT hooked up to its ADAT), and now a presonis firepod. The dm-24 has 2 firewire outputs and the firepod has 2 also. So I am not looking for an audio interface, I just need an actual dock on my computer that has firewire, at least four now, or two cards of two. I guess I was not too clear on that, sorry.

I would opt for the Adaptec unit, I have used their adapters without much trouble at all. I tried a USB 2.0 adapter from a lessor named Co. and it failed missarebly, switched to the Adaptec and it hasnt bunked out on me once. Also, I belive I have seen the Adaptecs with up to 4 ports on them.

i'm using a m audio 410 and i am not happy with it at this point. i recently upgraded to a G5 dual 2.0 and using the firewire sound card i am getting amplified signal and noise from the processor inside the computer through my monitors now. i've never had this problem with an internal soundcard. i've had the audiowerk 8 soundcard for over 7 years and i've worked in many studios besides my own and i've never had a problem or intereference ever. i'm seriously considering going back to a G4 and my old sound card with logic audio.
