I have not a clue. I'm a musician first and know nothing about computers and I want to use this device for home recording. Please as little tech talk as possible, just the best and easiest way.

welcome to the boards minita! First off, I'm gonna need some info as to what it is you want to do. DO you want to record an orchestra, a rock band, just yourself playing the kazoo? That will be the biggest help is determining what you want to acomplish, from that I can help you choose the best gear for the job. Aside from that, I reccomend looking over our recording tips section as well as the forums to kind of get your feet wet.

And once again, Welcome to HRC

And what instruments? Instruments you mic, or plug directly into the computer, if you know.

Do you have any gear or a PC now? What gear and what type of PC?

Just so you know...all users on here record on tape only... (no PC's or Macs)... and usually convert to vinyl or 8-track.

Kidding!

Yeah start throwing us some backround, you'll get fed so much knowledge you'll go from pro audio virgin to pro audio sl*t in a month...

Well, your PC seems plenty powerful, it seems what you need is a sound card, mixer or preamp of some sort and software.

For mixers, for what you want to do this one would be nice service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear as it has 4 (2 stereo) outs so you could do up to four mono tracks at once or 2 mono (guitar and bass) and one stereo (drums)

Regarding the software, well, if you buy some sound cards, software will come with them. Something like the ESI Wave Terminal 192 has 4 ins www.esi-pro.com/viewProduct.php?pid=6&page=1 or M-Audio's Delta 44 with 4 ins and 4 outs service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear
