"EITHER WOULD DO THE JOB JUST FINE".IF I DIDN'T KNOW THAT MY FRIEDS,I WOULDN'T POST MY MESSAGE...
I DID THAT CAUSE SOME "FRIENDS" TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ISSUE BEFORE I BUY ANYTHING.."USING 10 OR MORE GB OF SAMPLES REAL TIME FOR A FULL ORCHESTRA FOR EXAMPLE ISN'T EASY"THEY SAID...

Please, turn off your ****** caplock. It's VERY annoying.

If you are gonna use that much sampling I would suggest you worry just as much about having a fist full of RAM in your box as well, and get the CPU that can give you the highest benchmarks humanly possible. Running that much isn't easy, but you are also asking about two of the biggest processors in the industry...also, just as important as raw processing power, get the one that has the biggest FSB pipe...

Opteron would be far and away the faster chip...but it comes with a price.

What do your "friends" say on the subject?

Just remember, it's not about brand, name, model...it's about specs...speed, FSB speed, RAM and more. It's a total system, not any one component. A big, bad CPU isn't any good if you have it on a motherboard that doesn't allow it to run at full capacity, or enough RAM to utilize it's speed.
