im sure you're referring to the Roland Studio Package Pro? Looks neat:

I must admit my first impression was "oh no, roland finally got cheesy" but this thing seems pretty fully loaded. An integrated audio interface and mixer (with motorized faders!?!) 24bit 96kHz and 5.1 surround sound capabilities. and it comes with a mutlitracker program. Sounds like just about everything you need.

One little note on Logic if you are a PC user. Logic 5 is the final PC release. It will be all Mac from here on out. No more upgrades if you're a PC user so you may be learning a dead program. Here's an older thread on the topic:

oh no, i'm not saying it isn't worth it. just a little heads-up on the futue of emagic logic.

as for using other progs, absolutely. in fact the roland website says it also supports cubase, another popular tracker.

what it all comes down to is; whatever you intend to do with your DAW, as in, what kinda of music you plan to produce, how many simultaneous tracks you want to record, etc, determines the hardware/software setup you will need.

personally, i think the control consol is kinda cool looking. :OD

Yes, they mapped the interface (mixer, control surface combo) to be used with several other software program's. The software bundle with it is called Logic RPC Pro. And it will only work with that particular set-up. But as stated, the interface can be mapped to othe sequancer program's. It look's like a good deal for $1495.00, but I would make sure you are serious about recording before investing that heavily into gear.

gawd! is that how much it is!?! :O( i think you can get a good mixer for $200, a good soundcard for $200, and a good sequencer for $100. Tack on a few hundred more for other software and hardware and you've seriously undercut a price like that. Man, I could build an entire system for $1500.. sorry, just my personal opinion. I think if you stick around here long enough, and read some of the great threads and tips we have here, you'll be much better armed to make that first purchase. -j
