first, welcome to HRC

second, watch the language please

third, go to www.spywareinfo.com they have all the latest scoops on getting rid of spyware. Ask at their forums, or, in addition to adaware, run spybot search and destroy, they work very well together. Also, find a copy of CWShredder.exe at spywareinfo and run it, if it's coolwebsearch, which it likely is, it'll help you get rid of it.

I strongly recommend 'Spybot Search and Destroy'. You can download it free from cnet.com. If it still pops up you might have to use a heavier program to do so. But spybot, for the most part has done me well at home and at work.

yeah... know the feeling... doing so work for a family whos 12 year old son doesn't believe spyware and viruses are real... just think parents tell their kids to get them to not download crap... returned their XP home computer to them yesterday... got a call at 2pm today saying the son already killed it. They had a Win ME box that I convinced them to have as a Linux box as ME is just garbage security wise.

I'll make him pay... somehow... 2 linux boxs in the house maybe and lock him down to a 5Mb disk quota...

...matching wits with a 12y.o. on a PC is a challenge.

oh...and Mozilla Firefox...

then right click on IE in the startmenu and make it hidden... anything to make it harder for kids makes it easier for you...

I know this one... Hehe. You gotta go through a bunch of steps, including a registry cleaning to get rid of it.

when i start getting popups from something running on my computer, i take it as a sign to backup my files and format.

good idea, then you can get the virus/spyware/malware in your backup too and pass it on to your next computer :-)

How to get your computer back from hell:

BEFORE ANYTHING: TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE! (start - settings - control panel - system - system restore - OFF!)

Step 1: Download/install/fully update Spybot: S&D, Ad-Aware, AVG Antivirus (unless you have an antivirus already), and Registry Mechanic

Step 2: Reboot the computer in Safe Mode by pressing "F8" while it is booting up (before the "Windows" splash screen comes up)

Step 3: Run Spybot, then Ad-Aware (full system check), then AVG

Step 4: Reboot, then run Spybot, then Ad-Aware, then AVG

Step 5: Reboot, Run Registry Mechanic

Step 6: Run Defrag (start - programs - accessories - system tools - disk defragmenter)

You should be mostly good to go after that!
