I want to purchase a dynamic mic...I narrowed it down to these 2.
I already have a shuresm58, but I want something more affordable for just small home recording.

Shure PG58
OR
Behringer Ultravoice XM8500A

Both are..ROUGHLY aroudn the same price..
roughly the same freq...but..I heard the Behringer was MUCH better.

PLEASE HELP.

I dunno if they are MUCH better. Shure makes pretty good mics. But then again, Behringer is pretty good too...

Some may dissagree, but even though I am a big Behringer fan, with Shure you are bound to get pretty decent quality.

I heard the Behringer had pretty nice sound. It added a bit of coloration the the recorded sound's, but it was refered to as being warm and full. It was also given a good rating on another site I visited.

Sorry, that was my elusive way of trying to sound like I know what I`m talking about without giving a real answer.

I really don`t know which is better. I haven`t heard either. I was just saying that Shure seems to have made a pretty good name for itself as far as mics go.

I think everyone knows what I'm going to say...

Go with an SM57... they're the best mic EVER in my opinion...

Might I be so bold as to ask exactly what you plan to record with it? Vocal, guitar, bass, drums, horns? If you need something that will work on anything, I would say the SM57 as well, if you have a more targeted use, perhaps we can make better recommendations. The SM58 is a good vocal mic itself and you alreayd have one of those...so what do you need your new one for?

I own a behringer xm8500 mic which I think is an older version of the xm8500a, and Its been great for whatever i've needed to do so far, although its worth spending a bit more for something which will last you.
