audiophile 2496 midi in not working:(

hello all!
This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right...
I have an audiophile 2496 and a midi keyboard(and some other gear, which is on my profile but doesn't really come into this). Basicaly the keyboard is plugged into the midi in but i can't record midi in Acid or Cubase(can't use midi in in any situation in fact). I know the keyboard is ok because it works fine when plugged into a synth on it's own. Midi out works absolutely normally too.
trouble is I hadn't recorded midi for a while so I don't know when it stopped working. I wondered if this was a common problem caused by something I'd overlooked? I couldn't find any midi settings on the audiophile control panel or similar.
anyways hope somebody can help and this isn't in a faq somewhere(i did look)

respects
james

I'd check the Acid and Cubase settings to see how your midi is setup. You shouldn't have to change anything in your Audiophile settings, but rather in the software your using to create the MIDI data.

Also, double check to make sure you have everything setup right too. What happens when you try to record the MIDI? Do you get a blank recording or do you see actual MIDI data?

I don't use Acid or Cubase, but you might have to add a specific MIDI channel to record.

There could be a variety of solutions so we need to know every little detail.

Well the problem is also in Rubberduck and SendSX, so it seems to be not dependent on the sequencing software. Basically it's like there is no keyboard plugged in. Pressing keys has no effect. The SendSX program records all incoming midi data and it shows nothing at all, so it isn't like the messages are being filtered out by the software or anything. I'm sure it isn't a midi cable issue.

have you double checked that you have the most recent drivers. The audiophile did have some issues with MIDI in the originals if I recall correctly.

um, I'm not sure about Cubase, but I'm under the impression that Acid does not record midi. Most programs, when recording, need you to specify a source, or where you are recording from. Have you made sure to tell the program to record your midi in?

acid 4 does have midi recording, makes it a well cool program:)
but yeah i have checked where to record the midi from
i'm beginning to think the soundcard may be defective..... but it's pretty new(under 2 months) seems unlikely

thanks for all the help by the way, is much appreciated:D
