Any gamers on the forum? I've been dying to find some online servers that still host deathmatches for Heretic and Hexen by ID Software.

Now, of relevance to the board, has anybody got a clue how I can get my Firewire 410 to behave in a DOS emulating environment for sound playback?

Much as I'm sure someone wants to shoot me to for using pro (or semi-pro) equipment this way, I NEEDS MY GAMES!!!!

And hey, if anyone wants to DM sometime, I'd be all for it if you can help me figure out how!

Not too many pro or semi-pro cards support DOS anymore unless you can find some hacked drivers on the 'net somewhere...

It seemed to actually want to PLAY the sound in Heretic when the setup was for a Soundblaster, Port 220, IRQ 5, DMA 1. The problem was this really crippling SLOOOOOOOWNESS to everything when any sound was active. For a game with as many ambient effects, this kills.

The other DMA and IRQ settings I attempted just returned no sound whatsoever. So, the long and short is that sound works, but my machine chugs on it whenever it's active.

Blaster Master was amazing! NES is the only video games i play really. cant be bothered with the fancy expensive stuff that comes out now. who needs it when you have duck hunt? its all about the drinking game "Rum and Punch-out". every time you use the special move you take a shot while playing. it requires much skill.

What OS are you using? XP should take care of that stuff on its own...I would think that the SB card would agree with old iD games. Mine always did, at least.

Oh, and speaking of Nintendo and music, have any of you heard the album Advantage by The Advantage? Named after that big ol' joystick that they released for the 8 bit nintendo, they did some variations on a theme based on old nintendo music. Pretty funny and surprisingly entertaining: www.pitchforkmedia.com/re...advantage.shtml

On the subject of NES music - I ran across a great site some while back that has remixes of the old tunes - for numerous systems. ocremix.org...at least I think that's the URL...

As for the OS - I'm using XP, but I really only have the external Firewire 410 as a sound card. For whatever reason it seems to be choking on the sound data the game sends it (this is Heretic).
