I've read reviews but I need to know, Is it good for screaming and punky type vocals. Also I have a 6 channel P.A. thats 220 watts, will this give it the phantom power it needs or do I need to get an additional source of power to make it go.

Thanks

PingsoPunk,
I have heard great things about that mic!!!!
I read that its the best for incredibly loud voices, so that may be your ticket there!.

Arso, it will go fine with 220 watt board with phantom power!!!!

Yeah, y'a got'ta have 'phantom' on the board, though .

I've got the 990, and I thought it was a little on the 'tinnie' side ?

what would be the best and cheapest solution. A little phantom power source, well i got 40$ on me I might just get a few bucks more and go for a 2 channel mixer so I can get more options.

I have an MXL990. They can be a little thin, but it's a pretty good mic (for my purposes).

Have you considered the Behringer MIC100?
They run about $50US (or less), and have 48v phantom power, a 20dB pad, limiter (not great, but there), and a phase switch.

A decent 12AX7 tube will run you $15-$20, and a standard AC power adapter could be about $20, so for $10 more you get a pretty good mic (and guitar/bass/keyboard) preamp. Cheap, efficient, and might solve some problems. Warms up the MXL990 a treat.

Did you get the MXL990 alone, or with the MXL991 combo pack? The MXL991 is great (IMHO).

I just bought the MXL 990 alone. Man I already ordered a Nady phantom power supply, damn.....Tube must sound so good and so warm. I dont know that much about recording and pre amps and EQing and all so im just getting into it. Thank you anyways a litle later on I will upgrade to that.

flip it on ebay man, lose a little, learn a little. I do it all the time. The trick is to move on and forget about it. Some people are torn apart by money losses, small or large, and some can just blow it off. The latter is easier, and more healthy mentally, you dig?

A good way to look at it is, "I paid a certain price to audition something, and then didnt want it".

I dunno, being able to blow off money losses isn't necessarily a good quality to have...depending on where your threshold knob is set...I wanna retire someday, I keep track of money.
