I have a problem in my DAW. Im using Sonar 3.1, Layla sound card, new 2.8 AMD machine. There is a project I am recording, acoustic only, in E flat tuning. It recorded fine, but the next 4 times I opened up Sonar it had changed up a full step. The 5th time, over a week period I guess, it finally went back to the original key. I then left the machine on, till the next day, and it went sharp again!!!

I decided to try vocals on the sharp version, and when it went back down, the vocals were unusable.
I dont know if this is a soundcard, software,or machine issue. Im not accidentally hitting anything to make this happen, and there is no rhyme or reason to when it happens. I also opened a few other things up, and they too were up a whole step!!!Everything I can see is locked in the sc settings, and I cant see anything out of order in the program.

Whats the deal?!?!?

Thanks alot,
Joe

I had that happen once with Protools LE... I can't remember what it was though as it was about 3 years ago and my first recording experience...

I think it had something to do with mixing sampling rates in the project... make sure your sampling rates are set the same...I do remember it was something really dumb... sorry I can't help more.

from the SONAR FAQ:www.cakewalk.com/forum/tm.asp?m=120088

Audio playback is slow and out of tune !

This can happen if SONAR is set to a different sample frequency/bitrate to your soundcard eg. SONAR is set to 96k/24bit, but your soundcard is set to digitally sync with an external 44.1k source.

Another possibility is that your audio has been imported as a groove clip. This type of audio information has embedded pitch and timing information, which you'll need to override to get the clip to fit with your project. Double click on the audio from the track view and check that the "Follow Project Pitch" button is enabled and "Enable Stretching" button is disabled.

...and finally... your soundcard may automatically change sampling rate if windoze plays a system sound to "int 32khz" and that may explain the reason it changes after being left on.

Ditto,

Cubase SX will fweek out now and then. Usually because I get boneheaded and ask it to do something non-sensical. I usualy record 48k/24 so in my case Cubase fweeks and reverts to 44.1. Then everything is slomo and petal tone.
