Does anyone know of a website that you can go to, to get info on what used to record albums? Like what amp, mics, pres...etc? I have been looking for a while now, maybe some of you have ran across something.
Thanks,

Jun 14, 2004 09:33 am Sorry, I have never seen a site like that. Good idea, though. But wow, that would be a lot of typing for each album/track, for whoever is reporting that info... Your next best bet might be to either look at the artist's webpage or perhaps the studio's site... at least you could get an idea of the type of gear they regularly use.
Jun 14, 2004 09:34 am Do you mean what was used for specific albums by specific artists? Often these are cronicled at fan sites or in musical bio books and the like...
That would be a cool section to start here if we could get the info from reliable sources...
Jun 14, 2004 10:06 am Ya, like for example I saw this thing on Jimmy Page useing a specific amp face down with a mic over the back of the speaker to do a specific song. Studio tricks that were used for a specific song. So on and so on. I am trying to get an idea of how some of the famous historical sounds were made as well as some of the new cutting edge sounds are created. I see in a lot of articals in mags and on the web about like Bob Rock saying he used Bogner amps as well as others to record the new Slipknot album. It would be nice to know how the "famous" guitar sounds were created so rookies like me could at least have a starting point.

Jun 14, 2004 09:30 pm guitwizz, you are on my A list now. I too am ashamed of what he did, or they did and he let them. Tha truly was the most embarassing thing a band like that could do. I would even go so far as to say it far out did Guns and Roses Use your illusion, or the Spaghetti Incident.
But Bob Rock still rules in my book, he worked with Rob Zombie to create the Ramones tribute album which is excellant. The Cult, Afghan Wigs, Krokus, LoverBoy, Surviver, and way to many more to list. He even made Cher sound good.
I dont think Bob rock worked on the latest Slipknot album though, it was produced by Rick Ruben and recorded and mixed by Greg Fidelman mostly in California.
Apr 04, 2007 10:34 pm Check out Famous Guitar Sounds to find out what amps & effects were used by famous guitarists. There are also tips on what equipment to buy for home recording.

Hope this helps.
It is my site, so let me know if you have any suggestions or requests.

Apr 05, 2007 09:31 am Hmmm, good stuff on there. I think the original post is a grand idea, alas I do not know of anything like that.
Apr 05, 2007 09:47 am I'd gladly host the type of info the original post asked for if somebody else will contribute the content. I don't know much of that...

Apr 05, 2007 11:28 am GuitarGeek.com does this for concert rigs but not for studio setups. And I think that its no longer being updated because all of the guitar rigs are getting pretty old.
I'd almost be afraid to see how extensive the lists would be for albums like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, The Sophtware Slump, O.K. Computer, or Darkside of the Moon. Each of those would provide hours of reading I bet.
Apr 05, 2007 10:51 pm Try Wikipedia. It may not be specific to albums but for some artists it says what instruments and gear they use.

Apr 05, 2007 11:39 pm That is a very cool idea. I think most of that info I get from Tape-Op magazine. They have some here in the for of interviews and such. They have a great magazine. prosoundweb.com/studio/tapeop/
