hello all

ive now completed my purchases for my new home studio, but now im stuck with the problem of getting it all connected together,i have been on countless websites, printed off numerous sheets and diagrams, but none seem to be what im looking for,the main problem i have is i want to incorporate a patchbay, and a audio 1010 soundcard with all my rack gear,i just dont know the wiring sequence where it all goes if somebody can help me out here that would be great, i can fax a sheet with a diagram of all my gear if somebody could draw in where all the cables go or write it on here

many thanks for your help

What do you have for rack gear that makes you need a patch bay in the first place?

considering the gear you have and the console you have, I don't see the patch bay really even being necessary. the 3d processor would likely go on a main aux loop, 31 band EQ as well. virtuallizer would likely be an insert tool as well as some of the others. Then run the 8 group outs to the eight ins of your 1010 and a couple of the 1010 outs to your amp, a couple more back to the console (as it will be useful from time to time, you'll know, down the road, when that time is near)...the ADAT's...well, personally, I'd sell those...you have a PC, record on that...unless you have some special need that requires them, such as a friend uses them and you want to work together.

thanks for the advise, most of the rack gear i.e virtualizer have 2 channels with 2 ins/2 outs, where would those 4 connections go on a channels, plus i thought the idea of a patchbay would save me having to rumage round the back of the rack unit,do you think i would have enough pc hard drive to do the job i want, which isto record the backing tracks first, drums, guitar, bass, then do all the overdubs, vox, lead etc,,and we have a small que of bands waiting to record,so i imagine there will be a lot of stuff on the hard drive
just going for a well earned cup of tea and get out of this sweat box
i will be back on hear in 30 mins
thanks again

Many unit, while having stereo ins and outs, are used as mono ins and stereo outs...as the unit itself creates the stereo imaging...or, that has been my experience anyway. Yes, a patch bay does save you from going behind your rack and stuff, but if you put the common globally-used effects in aux loops on your console, then they are available to any channel, or group of channels, by turning up the send knob no the channels that need it. Using insert, you just reach to the top of your console and move the plug from one channel to the other. In your case it seems as tho a patch bay would just be adding unnecessary routing jacks and stuff...

You say your PC has an 80GB hard drive with Cakewalk Guitar Pro (I assume that Guitar Tracks Pro)...ummm, yeah, you should be fine. By selling your ADAT's you could get enough money to buy RAM and maybe a second hard drive for just your audio (to keep =it on a separate HD from your system...better performance) and you'll be golden.

You will also find editing, punching and stuff MUCH more user-friendly on a PC.
