I'm recording this band local rock band. All the Recording equipment I have is a Cd recorder, 5 Shure RS25 Mics, 5 Mic stands, and a Behringer MX2004A 20 channel mixer. The band is using a bass guitar, an electric guitar, a drum set and two vocal mics. Is there any tips or advice on any equioment I can add? What can I do to get the best and clear sound? So basically, I'm a beginner and need help on how to record. thanks.

fpr starter you need a compressor, and also, you don't mention what media you are recording to? Tape deck, hard disk or PC? If PC, what software are you using, if hard disc, which one? If tape, which one?

Dang dude, I thought that's what you meant. Man, you need to multitrack it onto some feasable medium, like tape or harddisc. You've got everything you need to get the sound *into* your recording medium. You got the mics and a mixer. Now you need a more pliable recorder. I think just about everyone on this board could agree that a computer is just about the easiest and most cost effective way to go. Click on the Recording Tips link on the left of the page for a whole mess of useful articles, read everything that applies to you, and if youre still confused, armed with all that new knowledge, you can ask these guys again and know exactly what to ask for. Good luck! -j

Whoa, ummmm, take a big step back, tell that band to lower their time-frame expectations and take a deep breath.

First decide on your "pliable medium" as Jamie put it, he is right, you need a tape deck (multitrack) or a PC with a decent sound card. This will allow you to record this band to a usable mixing environment. After allthe tracks are layed and such, then you go in and fix any mistakes, mix the instruments, and compression , reverb, EQ or whatever else you need to, get it sounding right, THEN burn it to CD.

Let me ask you this, what were you planning to do, put a mic in the middle of the room, press record and let the band play their song all at once, live in the room and use that take with no editing? Not saying you couldn't do that, many have, but if they want a good sound, it's not exactly the best way...
