hey people. has anybody used the MOTU FastLane USB Midi Interface? I won this thing off ebay with my Motu 828 Firewire.

I cannot get this usb device installed properly. I get to the end of installing the drivers and get an error message stating "cannot find the specified file." Tech support cannot seem to help.

any help is appreciated.

thanks

Well I would recomend uninstalling the drivers completely and make sure the fastlane is not connected to the computer. Next go to MOTU www.motu.com/ website and download the most recent drivers which can be found by clicking the link to the fastlanes page and then follow the links.

MOTU has a multiple install which means in windows it may find it and start installing the drivers but could also repeat the process up to 3 times as the drivers are installed in segments.

Form what you describe about not finding the specified file I am thinking the driver files you have may be corrupt and would again recomend going to MOTU's website and downloading the current driver files and then installing them.

They also have a page which runs through the install process, very short and easy to do.

i've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers several times. i'm uninstalled and redownloaded the so-called updated drivers several times.

here is the exact error message when installing the drivers

"Error 2 in UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices: The System cannot find the file specified."

-I then click ok and the same message comes up. I click ok again. it says the drivers have successfully been installed.

new hardware wizard comes up and begins installation. "Cannot complete installation. Cannot find the file specified."

any other suggestions? please help.

thanks

Just out of curiousity which OS do you have? (i.e. Windows 98, ME, XP..etc..) If you can't install the drivers from a cd or the Motu website, you might want to try (this is only for windows, not familiar with mac):

1. right click on my computer

2. select properties

3. click on the hardware or device manager tab (you'll want to end up at the device manager. Some OS's will have the hardware tab and then device manager button, and some will have a device manager tab.)

4. Locate your device in your list (most likely it will have a question mark or a red X on it.)

5. Right click on the device and select properties.

6. It will give you a device status, and if the device status is "Device is working properly" you have the correct drivers and it is something else. But if it says like Install Drivers or Re-install drivers make sure that you go that rout from this screen and windows will browse your hard drive, and cd drive for the most up to date driver available.

If it does not find the drivers for some reason, you may have a hardware issue also and I would go with Dans advice of calling Motu and seeing whats up. I know some of the older versions of windows can be picky about different driver sets sometimes. ;) Goodluck
