Zoom MRS-1266

Hi,

I have some questions about the Zoom MRS 1266.

I will use an external Behringer MX2642A console to add some EQ on the sorce before getting them "on track". But the EQ is just three band with variable mid.

1. Do anybody of you have any experience with the Insert effect Module EQ on the Zoom? The manual says "three or five band EQ" but nothing about the frequenzes... And the two band EQ is just for mixdown AFTER recording right?

2. When creating backups with USB cable to computer or burning down on a CD with the built in CD writer, should I create a backup AFTER adding the effects, EQ and compression BEFORE bouncing or mixdown? If so, I can go back and change the settings if I'm not sattisfied, right?

3. Any ideas about the Zoom's compressor? I can't seem to find all the traditional parameters (like threshold, attack, release and so on) in the manual...

We will record the drums and two guitars live on the first 6 tracks (throughthe Behringer) and then add some vocals, guitar licks, maybe a tambourine etc, so we're gonna have to do some bouncing in between.

My idea is to record everything as "dry" as possible and then add effects and compression later during mixdown, but the EQ is an important thing during recording (see my other thread "Garage sounding drums").

Thanx

Sometimes the EQ on the mixer may be all you need. As for patching in the FX on the Zoom I would assume they are just a graphic Eq but they could be parametric and that would be better. You will just need to patch them in and check them out.Teh 2 band EQ can be used anywhere you can insert it. I would assume again this may be a parametric EQ as it is only 2 band and it would make sense.

As for backing up, I prefer to back up an un-edited copy so you can always go back and re-tweak if the first mix doesnt turn out.

The compressor should have a control menu somewhere in there, it wouldnt make sense not to have one. Maybe contact Zoom's technical support or check out their website for more info.

And yes indeed record dry when ever possible. Then add the FX later as this offers you the chance to try differant things out.

if you go into the high eq, then press down arrow it will bring up the freq. rage at which you want it to be sent. also, if you add effects to your track, bounch it to a v-take, you can ALWAYS go back that way and delete anything that sucks. and all you have to do is select a effect (in any format) then press the arrows to modify it 7 ways till sunday, evrything is manipulatable in this thing. i love it for now.
cheers
