Can I connect a Delta 44 to a home stereo amp to power monitor speakers?

I am getting an M-Audio Delta 44, but I am not sure what to do about powering a set of monitor speakers. Can I use a regular home amp (JVC, Sony, etc.) to power a set of speakers or is there a better way?

Can you? Absolutely!

Is there a better way?, uh, ya, but like most "better ways" it costs ya more money.

The better way is to get a dedicated referance amp for your studio, these amplifiers are finer tuned than stereo amps for a flatter, more consistant frequency response. Alesis makes some very nice, and comparitively affordable amps, here are three different models of differing wattage:

75 watts a side: service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

150 watts a side: service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

250 watts a side: service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

Of course, for more money you can get things from Crown and other very high-end and expensive manufacturers. I have an older model Alesis and have been happily using it for many, many years.

And as far as speakers, many visitors here will testify to the incredible difference they have heard going form typical stereo speakers to near-field monitors that are made for home-studio use, again, better, flatter response and higher-quality components. Home stereo speakers are made for a different use, and their frequncy response is different, usually cut at the midrange to make the highs and lows more "dynamic" sounding. I use JBL 4206's and have for a few years and they have been great:

M-Audio also makes some great speakers:

they also have a set with a bigger woofer, and a subwoofer that can add on for a bigger sound.

All in all, a studio is only as good as it's weakest link. And you are really better off not having that link be the speakers. Between speakers or amp, I would go for speakers first myself, but both are preferable.

But, again, yes, you can do it with a stereo amp and stereo speakers, better that way than not doing it at all, eh?
