Hi all, you may remember I did a cover of 'Pass it on' by the Coral a while back. Well since then i've been messing on my guitar and i came up with this the other day, it took 6 hours from scratch to complete.

please download and comment if you can be bothered :p

Pretty good indeed. I like the tune as well, and agree with the jazz/blues tag tonyd gave it.

Only comment would be to maybe level out the lead guitar parts as it tends to get up over the vocal part now and then. And myabe compress the vocal so it comes to an even level all throughout the tune.

Otherwise very nice guitar sounds as well, I thought they had a nice live sound, like a nice wood room.

Nice playin and singin! I'm not sure about the jazz blues part but I get confused a lot with genres. I hear a California evening sunset balad. If there is such a thing. I think I may be hearing the same thing as Noise. Where it me, I would work a little on getting a little more consistant levels on things in the mix. Most of the time I hear a very pleasing mix and then something kinda pops over the top in a way that just seems unnatural. Kinda over emphisized. Not that it wasn't captured well, it is all clean. As Noise mentioned, maybe start with a little compression with a fairly open attack time just to get things a littled leveled out.

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated.

Unusually for me, I didn't use any compression on anything and the lead was recorded in about 5 sections and the vocals in 2.

The microphone was rested on a jumper on a wooden desk, maybe thats where the wood room effect comes from :)

If I do a remix or anything i'll post it up to compare it with.

cheers.

Oh this is good. I like the improvisational feel to it. It kinda reminds me of My Morning Jacket with the soft vocals and improv'd guitar. The tambourine adds a nice touch, and there's a cool ambience with the reverb on everything...not too much but enough to let ya know that its there.

It sounds like the 'P' sounds are pretty percussive on the vocals. Might need a pop filter or something.

I liked this song. It is a nice, clean recording, though the whole mix seems a little distant. That's a catchy song, I liked the melody a lot. I am in agreement with the other posters on the need for some compression - overall the song and recording were both good.
