i want to lay down some tracks (just me and my guitar) but the problem is i'm giving up on using my old pc until i get the extra cash. im gonna go through my ub802 and then into my minidisc. then i am going to record it to the pc and add effects on cool edit 96 (the only program that will work). what else can i do to extend my possibilities, i'd love to add bass and percussion in later but is this possible considering my limitations

you may be able to increse the buffer size. It'll take longer to play a .wav or effect, but should increase performance.

Yup, increasing the buffer size will allow you to record a few more tracks and add some effects as well.
