Cubase VST audio loop

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere... no doubt it is. I've made a loop in WaveLab1 (software is legal but old) and want to find it's tempo. When copied over and over in vst it sounds right (because he loop is the correct length), but how do I ascertain it's bpm?

How would I set a marker in the audio so that I can snap part of it to a bar or beat?

For the sake of convenience it would be useful if I could do this without playing any external sounds with the loop (and there are no internal sounds AFAIK)....

any thoughts would be much appreciated

I believe there is a BPM converter for audio in our links section under freeware/shareware. I forget the name right now, but maybe Jamie will be along and catch this post. He knows the name as he is the one who requested the link. If I get time this evening I will have a look and see if I can find the name of the app.

Otherwise you can doa search on google and should turn up a few differant versions.

yikes! i usually just earball it. and i do have a free bpm counter/calculator installed i can't seem to find it on google.

instead, you might try to use this mp3.deepsound.net/eng/samples_calculs.php

scroll down abou 2/3 of the way and theres two calculators that let you convert # of samples or miliseconds into BPM. that way you can set the appx BPM in your app

even more helpful, right below that is a calc to help you find out how many samples is in a certain length of sound at a certain BPM. this will let you go back into wavelab and remake that loop to a more precise (sample accurate) loop that will work best.

i recommend first using the samples to BPM calc to find the closest BPM your loop is in (as an integer) and then using the BPM to sample calc to find the correct sample length it *should* be. Fix it in wavelab. The result will be a perfect length loop that will not drift or overlap

btw, a whole note is a "bar" or measure in most apps
