the LM4 is a VSTi drum machine and the Halion is a VSTi sampler.

The LM4 is built to run either stand alone or with midi input. It is a much more intricate tool then FruityLoops. Halion also is one of the most advanced software sampler's out there right now.

I played with LM4 a little before, and to be quite honest, it made no sense to me at all. People who are good with it say it is the best software drum machine available, so there must be something to it.

Yes, "stand alone" means it opens as it's own program, just like FruityLoops. Personally, I have never had a need that FruityLoops couldn't handle, so I never bothered spending a lot of time trying to learn LM4.

Halion I have no experience with at all, so I can't say anything to help on that one.

Both the LM4 and Hallion should be run in a VST app. When I refer to stand alone, I mean in the VST app. It can be playerd just like another synth. Or it can recieve midi data from Cubase or the like.

can give any example of VST app?

Any program that is VST compatible for plugin use, Cubase, Nuendo, heck, even FruityLoops is VST compatible.

...sombody told me tht i need to tune the tom tom

or, you could simple try another tomtom sound. However, you know those buttons you drag the new sounds over in FruityLoops to set up a new kit? Well, it you click on those buttons it will bring up a window that allows some pretty intense tuning and customizing of the sound. Try mucking around in there a bit.
