look you guys are not giving the full story
i have used 1000's of VST plug ins the one plug that will give you the best "improvment" is the BBE Sonic Maximizer if your not using a BBE sonic maximizer then your songs will not sound as polished as they could (BBE is not a shelf eq either) i make music 8 hours a day all year
i have used multi band plug in,cimp plug ins,but they do NOT MAKE AS LARGE OF A CHANGE AS A BBE SONIC MAXIMIZER TRUST ME I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!use it on each track not the overall mix.

I guess it probably doesn't matter how or why as long as it makes it sound better, but I'm just the curious type. So, what exactly does the Sonic Maximizer do to the signal? And does the VST plugin do the same thing as the hardware version I've seen advertised?

It is very similar to a blend of the Waves L1 and the Steinberg Magneto plugin. There are a few models available:

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

And yes, it is pretty cool, but I have seen little difference between what it can do, and a good mix of plugins that most of us already have.

But I will agree, it is very cool, and these units have been discussed a few times in these forums.

Sorry Justin, but if you scan this board completely. You will find many referance's to the BBE Sonic Maximizer. I own 4 of them, and use them on a regular basis. It is not a must have, but it is an aquired taste. I use it for many thing's, including but not limited to dubbing tape into the PC, bringing life back to DOA mp3's. And many other thing's. I use it for listening live to my synth patche's and newly created sample's. I own vintage BBE's, a pair of 822A's and a a pair of 422A's. Neither of which you will find on the shelf any more. They have much richer and fuller sound then the BBE you will find on the shelf these day's.

So, my recomendation is if yo wish to use and enhance your tuneagement, with this typ[e of unit. Go check out the used gear rack's, and look for an older unti like the 422A or the 822A, and pop to keep it fresh. I have mine worked on every year, just to keep them tidy.

And just so every one know's, you can get the same unit in a DX or VST pluggin, and twaek the liven daylight's out of them to get the sweetest sound's around.
