Rather peacefull the way it is. I liked the little echoed voice in there, it kinda took me by surprize for a second though. I can hear a lot of possabilitys in there as well. Ill give another listen a bit later as well, see if any creative ideas hit me.

Smooth, easy, dark, somber, beautiful. Confidant musicianship shines through. Tony, this is a very impressive song.

The vocals... are they compressed? I would compress the main vox track, I had to turn it up to make out the words clearly.

I really like this a lot, and I don't listen to much music in this genre. Nice job!

I would add vocal harmony (I'm thinking Alice in Chains' "Sap"). Maybe another guitar track with a really woody, organic sound.

Let me first say thats the best review ive ever in my life gotten....
Woody organic sound and SAP... dont quite know.
i messed with it last nite and.... nothing. are we talking a lite acoustic lead-not too intrusive? im stumped.... i cant quite get anything to fit. im very open to somebody putting thier touch on it. goto members.cox.net/stevebaz its song.mp3 add what you will!

Hey tony, finally got to give this tune a listen. I don't know about anyone else but I've been having a heck of a time with Nowhere this last week or so.

Great tune, I'm with tincan, I can hear another guitar part in this that would really complement it well. I may even give it a try since you posted a link to download, but I'm not sure I could put what hear into actual sound LOL.
I think this is probably the best one you've done yet to my ear. :)

Tony,

Sounds great!!
I agree with the Compression Idea. As far as the guitar track that they are talking about, I hear a lightly distorted guitar in the background. I just packed up my amp to send to Utah. I will be in Utah Wednesday. If noone has done anything by the time I get set up there I would like to give it a try. It sounds great as it is now. The only problem I see is if you put in Guitar it might take away from the Harmonica. Also if you get time I requested Feedback on my songs also. They are on nowhere under the Band Twin Twelve.

i had a guy come over and record (his first time..never heard himself before- i loved the look on his face) any way we got through 2 tunes sat nite and ive gotta mix those up tonight and im gonna bury the lonelist, heart wrenching electric guitar deep in the mix not all the way through- dont want to mess with harmonica (i dig that harmonica part of this tune) and ill get the vocals out a touch more and bring up the over all volume (i mixed this very late fri nite and i wasnt all that sober, im a naughty monkey)

My son was having that problem at his buddys house as well and they have AOL. Now that naswers part of the question. It is AOL and NWR something not right there.

"are we talking a lite acoustic lead-not too intrusive? im stumped.... i cant quite get anything to fit."

I think a woody acoustic organic rythymn guitar track basicly doubling the existing guitar would be killer. I wouldn't add a lead, exactly... it would be superfluous. The music stands on its own as it is now.

I don't know what's going on. I emailed Waldo about it, but he says there shouldn't be any conflict, but I'm not convinced that it's not an AOL thing even though I don't have any guesses on what exactly it might be.

My thoughts are along the line of Tincan, though finger picked and plucked, (neither of which I'm very good at <G>) Could be clean electric or acoustic and more as accent pieces than a continuous thing goin on..

I'm gonna play around with it and see if I can do it, I'll let ya know. :)

if it's NOT an optical mouse roll it over, open the bottom, take out the trackball and clean it out in there, also get one of those pressured aircans and blow out in there and under the buttons and junk.

Dust, dirt and crap can build up in a mouse very easily, and sometimes very quickly...but they are quite easy to clean.

I'm sure you already have ideas by now. It took me the longest time to picture the tones I was wanting to hear. They turned out to be a very simple upright bass and a very airy light flute. There's a whimsicle airy feel to the song, a little mystic and definately an acustic earthy feel.

that's real nice. Having read the thread, before listening, I was anticipating something "missing". The first listen, I thought is stands by itself nicely. Then, the second time through, I started humming all these other wierd parts to it. I'm thinking of a funky electric bass placed pretty quietly in the mix. Or possibly a moaning e-guitar played in a bluesy style placed lightly in the background (not overcoming the accoustic).

i think tonights the night- gotta fix the wifes machine (ill use that time to "prime the pump")
then ill give it a go- and if it doesnt work out ive got a couple of other things to mix together that will take much less thought.

one question, are recorders (the wind instrument with a reed) like harmonicas in the fact that you need to get them in certain keys to work?

This is a good song. I like your attitude towards the songs you write because you don't dwell on them. It seems that you'd rather turn around and write and record another song than sit and agonize about decisions on previously done songs. I like that. It leaves your work with a very natural, honest and focused presentation. It also gives us more of your stuff to listen to :)

This song is very cleanly done. The contrast in the EQ of the backup vocal is nice and brings some spice to the mix without being distracting. I love the harmonica inthe background. I agree with the above opinions that the song could use something, but it would have to be subtle whatever it is that you decide to do.

How are you tracking the acoustic guitar? It sounds "plugged in", that telltale sound of a peizo saddle pickup. Do you have a mic that you could use, or could you use a combination of mic'd/direct guitar?

yep its plugged in- right into the mixer. i was just commenting on how your (we were listening to your new demos here at the office) guitar parts have a really great sound. i might start using 2 tracks on my mixer for the guitar part, with straight in and sm57 with slightly diffrent eq at the same time and see what i come up with in the future.
thanks for the listen!

"...might start using 2 tracks on my mixer for the guitar part, with straight in and sm57 with slightly diffrent eq at the same time..."

I did that on a few of mine (Melora My Love, Open Letter, Car Mojo) and really liked the result better than either method by itself. When I get my condensor mic I'll try miking my electric and mixing that with the line in signal... should sound interesting. :)

i just wanted to mention, that i tried it this weekend. (on a new cover tune) but the first time i tried it, i forgot to plug the guitar in, so all i got was the mic'd input. that was good, but i did it again with the guitar plugged in and it came out very good. got some tweaking to do, gonna start from scratch agian tonight i think (it'll be the 3rd start from scratch on this tune) but its great fun as always

Good luck Tony. I know that micing a guitar is a bigger pain than plugging it in, but the reward is worth it. I've yet to try to do more than 1 track at a time (lack of preamps & cables), or else I would have already tried micing & direct recording at once. Let us know how it turns out!
