Without a band once again.

I always told myself, "when I stop having fun, I'll quit". While I'm still loving playing music, I recently left a band due to a disagreement w/the management style of the lead singer and guitar player (who were a couple). About a week after I left, they called me and asked me to play w/them for the "Battle of the Bands" at the State Fair. I agreed to do so.

I quickly learned that this was no longer about the "band" when the only songs that were being played were the songs that they had written. Any songs by me or any of the others were nixed. But I figured, "What the hell?" It was just one gig, and it would be fun to play the fair.

They also had to bring in a different drummer, because the old drummer wasn't going to be in town. So we had to practice at the new guy's house which was quite a drive for me.

Last week I went to practice at the scheduled time, only to find out that the drummer was not going to be home for another hour. The singer and guitar player were also running late. I waited for awhile and when still nobody showed, I left.

When I got home, there was a message for me to call. I called, got reamed out and...... well, fired I guess. This, only 6 days before the gig.

While admittedly, I've been able to say it's a headache that I no longer have to deal with. I'm still missing the oppurtunity to play music.

Anybody else ever go through something like this?

Sorry everybody. I meant to put this in the "Talkin' Smack Forum". My apologies.

i sympatise entirely...ive spent the past 2 years trying to get a band together, and only now have i found ONE reliable member to play with...and he was totally worth the wait - experienced, reliable and on exactly the same wavelength as me.

stick with it...even when ive had band problems i can still go play gigs on my own and enjoy it just as much, and its coming right now!

keep the faith!

I have had nothing but hassles with bands.
I was taking a break from it to write and try to record some ideas I had kicking around that no one ever seemed interested in at the time.
Funny thing too, I've only just started and nothing is near being complete mind you but I am more inspired in my creations right now than I ever was in a band setting.
I still jam occasionally with several different players but for the most part I have been happier playing my own tune right now.
I recently got the omni studio and I'll be busy figuring out how to use it effectively for a while.
You were certainly right about not doing it if it isn't any fun. Just make sure you keep playing and find ways to be creative.
