I always told myself, "when I stop having fun, I'll quit". While I'm still loving playing music, I recently left a band due to a disagreement w/the management style of the lead singer and guitar player (who were a couple). About a week after I left, they called me and asked me to play w/them for the "Battle of the Bands" at the State Fair. I agreed to do so.
I quickly learned that this was no longer about the "band" when the only songs that were being played were the songs that they had written. Any songs by me or any of the others were nixed. But I figured, "What the hell?" It was just one gig, and it would be fun to play the fair.
They also had to bring in a different drummer, because the old drummer wasn't going to be in town. So we had to practice at the new guy's house which was quite a drive for me.
Last week I went to practice at the scheduled time, only to find out that the drummer was not going to be home for another hour. The singer and guitar player were also running late. I waited for awhile and when still nobody showed, I left.
When I got home, there was a message for me to call. I called, got reamed out and...... well, fired I guess. This, only 6 days before the gig.
While admittedly, I've been able to say it's a headache that I no longer have to deal with. I'm still missing the oppurtunity to play music.
Anybody else ever go through something like this?
