My good friend has a pair.

They are similar in design to the Makie HR824's and they aren't too bad. The low end can be a bit "ported" and "untuneful" which isn't a major problem - the low extension is definatly there (so no real need for a sub). The mids and highs seem detailed enough, though the whole soundstage seemed to lack "quality" to me - it's hard to describe such things in words.

But yes, good monitors for the price - I was gonna get a pair, but the Tannoys were only an extra £60 or so.

jues.

I personally use the KRK K-Roks and have not been dissapointed. Although they as not Bi-Amped which is what you appear to be looking for. I found the K-Roks to have a much better low end sound due in part to their front porting. They are very responsive throughout most musical pieces.

As jues said the Behringer truth moniters are a bit off on the way they colour the tone, but it is negligable. I will addmit they are a bit better in quality then the M-Audio, not to say the M-Audio moniters are lacking. In the right environment they work great, just not in my room. I dont think I would find an active moniter that would work for me in this room, so thus the use of the KRK passives.

If yo havent laid out the cash yet, give a listen to some Passive moniters as well just to let your ears get a good feel for what is out there. And if your a good rated customer at your local music store, they may even let you test them in your room. That is the only way you will truly know. Or make them gaurantee you full price exchange for a differant pair if the ones you choose dont work for you. I personally went through prabably about 20 pairs ove the years trying to find a set I liked and that fit the room.

very true noise

I have been using the tannoys for about 4 months now - I like them, but I can never be sure they will be my "favourite" monitors

you learn to adapt to any monitoring system - and this can be a good or a bad thing, depending on the montiors themselves ;)

horses for courses at the end of the day I afraid!

Love the analogy jues. And yes at the end of the day, what might not work for me in my room might work just fine for some one else in their room. And when I tried the Tannoys in another room I did like them quite a bit. If I ever need a pair of actives I would probably go that route.

...They are fairly nice monitors, Great for the money. Compare favorably to mackies...but get the mackies if you got the money. BTW, I'm buying a second set this weekend. Thats how well they work for me. But what is music to my ears may not be so to yours...
