Amp dilema

Now that you guys have turned me on to Line 6 amps I have another problem. I have done lots of research and have narrowed it down to either the Spider2 (2x12, 150 watt celestion speakers), or the Line 6 Duoverb (2x12, 150 watt celestion speakers.) I am afraid that the Spider won't have enough clean tones and the Duoverb won't have enough good distortion/metal tones, I play a wide variety of music so both are equally important to me. The last thing is the duoverb is only 100 watts to the Spider's 150. Also both amps are stereo, what exactly does this mean?

:O) stereo 2x12s are great. i played thru a and old bandmates original 1960's Fender Twin Reverb and fell in love with it.

I don't know anything about the Line 6 amps you're referring to, but I'd imagine that the amp has some stereo effects on board (reverb, chorus, etc) so each speaker it putting out a slightly different signal. makes for some interresting mic'ing possibiites :OD -j

Only 100 watts? 100 watts should be fine for what you are doing...or what ANYONE is doing really.

If you don't have enough of one type or another as far as sounds go, you can always add a processor down the road at some point...

...or you can add your POD to the equation to make up for any lack of effects/tones.

I have a 2x10 amp that is 25W x 2 channels, and it was loud enough to play small clubs. 100 watts will put out some incredibly loud sound! I can't even imagine what a 150W amp could do, other than damage hearing.

a 150-watt amp wouldn't do much more damage than a 100-watt amp. i think the ratio is: 10x more wattage equals 2x as much loudness in decibels. it's not even really worth factoring in when deciding between 100 and 150 watts.

I own the Spider 210 (Well, my brother does), and it is quite the nice amp. I image that the Spider 2's are even better. I believe it's 60 watts, and even that's more than enough for a small gig, especially when mic'd. It includes reverb, ping-pong, delay and a couple other effects that take advantage of the benefits of having two speakers. It has six amp models, all of which sound great to me.

Oh-- Don't forget the Line 6 Flextones either. If you want to have all the flexability (And amp models) of your POD built into an amp, then the flextone will do that for you. I believe it is basically the same thing as a POD in amp form. It also includes direct outs for recording just like a POD. Check it out and see if it might suit you better or worse than the Spiders.

Does anyone know how well the Flextone models the amps?

100 watts Vs 150 watts is mostly babble. Efficiency of the speakers, qualification of how the wattage was measured, yada yada, make such marketing statements idle babble.

Whatever happened to trying one? Listening to the thing before you buy it? I know that is getting more and more difficult. A real shame.

Frankly I run a 750 watt amp head for bass and with the cab I choose it is not exactly loud. Very clear however. The cab is inefficient as cabs go but again very clear. All in the "ear" of the beholder!

Walt, I see your back it appears. And with 750 watts, loud is - as loud does! The might not hear it but I would guess they can feel it.
