Cool Edit Pro 2 question

How in the heck do you get it to monitor live? I can not hear anything when I'm doing the actual recording or when I'm just messing around in the software, only after I record somthing. I really need to hear what I'm playing so I can EQ it much easier. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i have CEP2 and do this myself, but i do it through a 2nd soundcard, so i don't know if that'll make a difference. if you're in multitrack view you can right click on the (not sure what the official name is) controls portion of the track, where your volume and such is - on the left side of the track. I'm typing this at work - don't have access to it here so I'm doing this from memory... There's a track properties option, click that. You want to change your output source. then just make sure your speakers or headphones are hooked up to that source. make sure that your output source and your input source are not the same.

I have that correctly, doesn't work. This sucks. Any other suggestions?

could be something in the soundcard, as opposoed to CEP. I'm not familiar with the Aardcark 20/20 but on my M-Audio Delta 44 i have the option to assign Outputs 1 and 2 as "monitor mixer" which mixes down all eight of the soundcard's channels and lets me monitor them on Outs 1 and 2. This is the only way I've ever been able to hear what I record. This single option has made a zillion other things possible.
