NET MD Line In... GRRRR

hey guys i have a net MD mini disk ... i recorded from a board to it thru the outs just fine ... but i cant record from a powerd stereo mic straight in... why is that... shouldnt the powered mic give me enough signal even for a line in... im really mad that... sony tried to save a few bux by... not putting a mic in on the thing... any ideas on how to just use a mic with it... or am i ganna have to buy.. the... bigger one that has the ...mic in port... i would rather just buy a mic if i can help it... input anyone ..?

I would think you need to preamp the mic in someway...but I don't use MD, so I can't be sure...

Yeah, sounds like you need a small preamp - you should be able to find a relativly inexpensive one over at Muscian's Friend.

Depends entirely on the mic. What sort of power requirements does the mic have?

I guess that if it doesn't have a mic input it must not have "plug-in power" which is like a pre-amp built in. In that case I suppose you will need to buy a separate pre-amp... perhaps you can find portable/battery powered ones. I don't know, I guess you'll have to look around.

i have a Sony MD-S1 "net MD" which does not have plugin-power and my Sony ECM-T6 mic (takes a 2025 Li cell) works just find in the line in. Of course my old Sony MZ-R37, which isn't a "Net MD" does have plugin power and the ECM-T6 works with lifelike sensitivity when used in conjuction with plugin power.

but if you mic is truely self-powered, then is should work just fine in any line-in.
