This dont have much to do with recording but wondering if someone can help. I used a program called Renamefiles v2.4. It is a real cool prog that helps to rename alot of files at once. I was naming a huge group of MP3 soundclips and accidently renamed a folder to 87.mp3 and now I can't open the folder because its an mp3 ext. Anyone know how I can make it back into a folder ???? Thanks for any help .. : )

what OS are you using? as far as i knew, the recent windows OSs allow you to have extensions like that on your folders. but it's tough to tell how that program works. if it actually changes a whole folder to a single mp3 file, that's pretty messed up. try renaming the folder to a zip file and see if you're due for a miracle.

ya, sounds like a sucky program to let you even do that, but have you tried just renaming the folder back to what it was...using Windows Explorer, not that program...

Im using Win98 1st edition. The program did change it to .mp3 but it is still the same size and everything so I know my songs are in it.

Wow, I just tried what you said while I was writing this, I changed it to .zip and guess what, They are all in there. LOL

Thanks alot guys !

Ps. I dont want to make people mad in here next time I have an off topic subject like that, so does anyone know a message board that is based around that kinda stuff?
Also wanted to say I will have a song posted in a week or two. My first one with my new setup. Kinda punk, rockabilly, industrial, haha. Thanks

This is not off topic at all...you're in the computer forum, it's all good.

Glad you got it fixed!

heh yeah... gone are the days of walking into Best Buy and hoping on one of their demo computers and creating a folder with the name XXXkiddyporn with a null character (ctrl-255) some where in it...and placing it on the desktop. Win95 couldn't open it or delete itbecause of it's screwed up ASCII table...the computer would have to be re-installed... but it was fun to watch the department managers freak out about it...

people like that pissed me off. I used to manage a Computer Renaissance store her in MN, and the Music Go Round right next door. People that came in just to wreck something are losers. Ya know those people working at Best Buy are just trying make a living. Have some respect for people, man.

Ya, harmless to you, a pain in the butt to the people that work there. You get to chuckle at the expense of the people that work there.

I'd say it's nicer than smashing mailboxs :)

...and maybe it is alt-255.... I don't remember :)

more reciently if I feel an employee needs a hassle I ask if they have an "overdrive processor" instock (remember those?) or if they have a PS1 keyboard... or a daughter board... or some other horribly outdated thing...

Or sometimes just using old lingo is fun like instead of asking for a CPU chip ask for a "math co-processor" (CPU is the entire box) or use "baud" in networking conversations...

and sorry DB... just remember, it was never me :)
