Behringer VX2496 Ultra-Voice

The Behringer VX2496 Ultra-Voice (and also the VX2000) Voice Processors look kind of interesting. Anybody have one of these or looked at them? I was wondering if these would perform the same (or maybe a better) job as a more generic compressor. I have a Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor, which works pretty good on vocals but seems a little overly sensitve to upper midrange frequencies. I think it has something to do with the dynamic enhancer (which is not adjustable on the MDX2600). Also trying to figure-out what the differences are between the VX2496 & the VX2000. Is it only the digital output? Any opinions?

I have the VX2000 the older model , and the difference is one is newer and has digital outs i think . It's a good prossesor for the $$ but I'm about to head out and get a Focusrite voicemaster , so i might be getting rid of my Ultra voice . It's not a bad prossesor it does the job and it's easy to use .

Hey thanks Geoff,
I recently got an ART TPS, which I was thinking probably has higher quality preamps than the Behringer VX2496 ultra-voice, so I'm thinking I'll probably run the mic thru the ART TPS and then into the ultra-voice. Is that a good idea - or not? Each of these units has some compression, which brings up the next question, I have a Behringer MDX-2600 compressor which I was thinking of putting 3rd in the chain, before the recording system. So by the time I've done that, will I be compressing the #$%^&* out the signal or could these units all work together to make a better vocal sound?

I don't think it would really make much sense to put the vocals through both the TPS and Behringer since they're both preamps. I would recommend just stincking to the TPS, with the compressor after it. The TPS only has limiting, not really nice vocal compression. So, use the TPS with the comp after it. I would say you don't really need to use the OPL on the TPS if you're using the comp too, but I don't know about that for certain. If you do use both the behringer ultra-voice and TPS for some reason, I believe you wouldn't need the extra compressor because the ultra-voice has a similar compressor built in (If I recall correctly).

There's really no reason to use more than one compressor unless you want the signal to be compressed and then the peaks limited.
