Hello all

I recently bought an Aarkvark 20/20+ interface hearing some good reviews and a offer that I couldn't refuse. But here's the problem I'm having:

I really would like to have this interface working with my computer and able to hook into my sound system to do live recordings. I have a ordinary 24 channel analog Peavy board, along with effect boxes and thousands of dollars worth of instruments that our band has collected over the years. Is there a such thing as a board that has an in and out on every channel, with a built-in preamp. I don't need the functionallity of a digital board because I want to do all the editing through my computer, and be able to edit every channel individually with the software. The only thing I could think of is to have a board like this. Or could this work: Having mic preamps for every mic I have going in and all the analog cords going directly in the Aark interface, that way I wouldn't have to have 2 Aark 20/20's to cover it all. Again, the preamp would have to have an in and out on every channel to patch in with my system. Which way do you guys think?

Any help is appreciated. This problem has been bugging me to death. I have this Aark 20/20+ and want to be able to do a professionally recording. Any suggestions on equipment or software would be great. Thanks again!

Dale

Yes, many boards have direct out on every channel, or maybe half of them, but if it is a big board, half of them is a lot. What you need to look for is a "direct out" on the channel strip.

Or you could combine both of your ideas and get a smaller board with direct outs and extra pre-amps. You could use seperate preamps for some of the channels that you really need the extra quality of a more expensive preamp on, and use the board for the rest. Does the 24 channel board have any subgroups? You could use those for some of the channels as well. Whatever floats your boat.

Great! Thanks for the info.

How about some equipment suggestions for preamps and mixers. What companies supply these kind of mixers and preamps I'm looking for? What about software? I have been messing with Live 2 and seem to like it okay but it doesn't seem to have the flexibility that I'm looking for. What would you suggest?

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated

Th Aardvark 20/20 has 8 unbalanced analog inputs and an S/PDIF coax input. A Mackie 1604 VLZ/VLZ Pro has 8 direct out outputs for the first 8 channels as well as 4 buss and 6 aux outputs. It also has an insert on each channel which can also be sent to the Aardvark. Many of the Behringer mixers also have direct outs and/or inserts on several of the channels. If you are going to use condenser mics then you will also need phantom power. Most mixers provide this but not all. Same with mic pre's, they don't all have phantom power.

To take advantage of the S/PDIF input you will need something that outputs a digital signal. I use my DAT machine to convert analog line sources to digital so I can take advantage of the S/PDIF if I need two more inputs on my Delta 1010.

Blessings, Terry
