goodbye
--------
i hang my head in times of need
no simple solution that i can see
i need my space, i need more time
im sure that someday ill be alright

i hear you calling out to me
the sound of safety in this sea of grey
ive made my peace, ive made up my mind
ill be fine i said but not this time

another day that im not fine
another day i cant find my way home
i see the surface slip away from me
i cant see whats left behind, forgive me
--------

no idea what genre this is.. im taking recommendations. was just something quick and fun for me to do.

whoa. good song. i love the delay on the vocals. it's errie. not sure how you'd classify this, though, i'm the type to disdain categorizing everything. (i know.. i just categorized myself). But I just sent this to somebody to check out. Maybe she'll be able to put a name to it. I'll give a closer listen on headphones later ;O)

ever listen to VAST?

well i was looking for a genre.. for the sake of being able to describe it to people and for acidplanet's purposes.

as for vast.. never. should i? i hear a lot of mention them.. but thats about it.

It's just two guys. They had a single out awhile back, mid nineties maybe, off the second album. I can't think of what it's called. check out the songs "Flames" and "Pretty When You Cry" from the first album Visual Audio Sensory Theatre. It's all rather dark and moody, but moving. I think you'd enjoy it.

Hey thats a cool song collapse. I'm at as big a loss as everyone else to put it in a genre though <g>

I really like it, really clean mix, everything at the right levels, excellent job!

i like the straight forward beat. great choice of drum samples too. gives it a real 80's (the cure, etc) feel.

couple Q's now that i've given it a real listen:

1) where'd the seagull sample come from?

2) what genre's do you have it narrowed down to so we can pick one (vote anyone?)

3) you gotta let me know what plugin you used to get the left > right delay on the vox!

i love the pause you have at 2:18. i would have done it a little differently, but the effect came across loud and clear (or is that quiet and clear?). well done. and great ending where the instruments start subtracting and fading back into the ocean scene. man the waves crashing add the perfect kind of white noise. you can hear it throughout the song, and even though at many parts you can't hear it clear enough to tell what it is, it adds just the right hiss to really fill in the high end. excellent use of samples!

1) the seagull and waves are all actually the same sample from a sample disc simply titled '101 sound effects'. generic enough hehe.

2)genres ive debated [out of the acidplanet options]: rock, electronica, experimental, experimental/post rock, or other... id call it electronic rock. it sounds like rock.. but with electronics =P

3)its actually 2 vocal tracks. one panned left at about 45%.. the other at 70% right. left has a smooth chorus over it. right has a light flange to it. and i offset the time of the right channel so that it trails just behind the left channel.

i definitely appreciate the feedback on this track. i wasnt sure how it would be received. many thanks guys.

ah! *that's* what i couldn't place. so it's two totally diff takes, and the right one's scooted over in time. how orginal.

Great stuff collapse - I really enjoyed that tune and there was nothing that really stood out. I would personally lump for "experimental/post rock" for the genre, it reminds me of early NiN (Pretty Hate Machine).

Also, I have to agree with Jamie, the pause in the song is very abrupt, maybe have a reverb tail dying off or something, just to smooth it.

Also, is that an acoustic guitar or a synth? Oh, and love the strings at the start, real nice.

hmm i might have to try that. thanks for the suggestion. and thats actually the 'plucked' plugin off of fruityloops.

that plugin is invaluable. =)

so I checked this one out based on Jamie's blaring review "EVERYBODY CHECK THIS OUT. GOOD STUFF!". I signed up with AcidPlanet and everything just to download it (streaming doesn't work well on my slow connection).

And I have to say, this is really, really good. If I was going to be nit picky, I might suggest the "plucked" sound be accentuated a little bit as it seems to get lost in the background a little bit. But overall, I really like it a lot. Definitely worth the effort to check it out. The vocals effects are really cool.

For genre, I would call it synth rock. But I don't know if that's valid for Acid Planet...

i was going to say the exact opposite. i don't really care for the plinky attack on the strings. but maybe that's just because i've spend countless hours toying around inside of Fruity Loops and I'm just sick of the packaged sounds it comes with

This is a great song, and a great recording. 5 stars out of 5. :) I'd call it electronica. Keep crankin' em out, I'd love to hear more.

looks like he finally settled on "Rock - Experimental/Post Rock" which i think is a good description.

Collapse has got a new one up now called "pushing away" and it's awesome! The usual UEC darkwave/industrial grind, that gets better with each release. Don't know why he didn't post and let us know.

UPC scores 10 out of a possible 10. Collapse, sorry I didnt get to hear this till now. Man you have done it again, changed gears and didnt miss a beat. A bit of a softer UPC I will say, but great none the less. To use an old phrase I will say its very trippy, and my 11 year old agreed with that since he liked the track as well. I popped on the headphones and loved it. Allready put it on CD quick just so I could go out in the living room and listen on my Paradigms. Man was it great, nice mix and very straight use of sounds.

Keep it coming, you just about got a full album now.

by the way, I left ya a review at AcidPlanet.
