well i never have used cubase but in all the other programs i've used on each track it has a little "R" or "Rec". when you press that it lights up or blinks, telling the sound card witch track to record to. i don't know if cubase is as simple, but some ware in there you have to activate the track to be recorded. try looking at the manual or the help files...search under "activating a track for record" or something like that. i'm really not the person to help you because i've never used cubase, maby when the other people are on they could help you a little more than i can. :)

As I recall in Cubase you have to open up the track's control panel and enable it in the control panel, not on the typical track view like every other program...that said, it has been a while since I have used Cubase, so my memory may not be totally accurate.

Yes, to the left of the track's is a control panel that will open individual menu's for each track set up.

Maybe you have to hold ctrl when you click? A couple apps I have require that for recording functions... just a thought.

no, no cntl button needed, I know that, but you may have to press the "in" button above the LED meter...I remember the sheer hastle of something as simple as recording (among other things) being one of the main reasons I stopped using Cubase...something are just more difficult than they have to be.

I don't use it anymore and I don't have it installed, so I am running off of just memory here...if george still came around he would know, he uses Cubase, but he seems to have vanished...

Ya know, most programs, under the "help" menu at the top has a totally searchable users manual, I am sure that Cubase does as well. Just search for the directions in that help menu.

i did...and here (quote) is what i got...

"Record Enable : click this button to enable recording"

sheer genius! id never've guess that...

thing is, as i said it doesnt woprk and there's no mention of this problem in the troubleshooting bit.

i tried the thing with clicking the 'in' button like you said, and that didnt help either.

any other ideas before i pickaxe my machine? if you can find anything in the manual noize, that'd be a HUGE help.

ta!

hmmmmmm, so, does the enable button light up? doesanything show up on the tracks LED meter and it just isn't being recorded?

In a previous post you said "I press it and it does nothing" what does that mean, no light up, no LED, no sound? These may sound like stupid questions, but dangit, we have to figure this out.

i press the ins button on the bit with the led's, and it lights up. then if i press the enable buton in the track window the ins light goes out and brings up the record enable error when i try to record.

trying it the other way, i light up the ins button then try to record straight away (without touching anything else) and get the same message.

i really appreciate every1's efforts so far, youve been great! you can all have cd's when ive sussed it out!

cheers

Ok, the manual cover's exactly wht you just said. I am guessing that Cubase is haveing trouble talking to the sound card.

I would try to reinstall the driver's first and see if that help's. Other wise, you have done what the manual suggest's.

excuse my endless stupid questions, but what are the drivers? part of the cubase programme of something seperate? i promise this is the last you'll have to comment on the subject...

Dirvers are software, written by hardware manaufacturers that instruct the operating system on how to talk to the hardware to get them to work together.

The drivers are for your sound card. You might check in the drivers window and see if you have any conflicts.

just for clarity, you would look in the "Device Manager" in the system option of the control panel.

Maybe you already told us, but... what's your soundcard?
If it's a more than two in soundcard, you need to activate the multirecord option (i don't remember what's the menu) and then on the left, in the tracks window, there will be a new column that will allow you to select the track for recording.

The things to do are the following:
1 make sure the driver of your soundcard is in the asio drivers in the cubase folder, if it's not present, there should be at least a generic asio driver;
2 open cubase, open panels menu, open vst imputs and look what inputs are available, select it so that the green button higlights;
3 make sure the left locator is at the start, and the right locator is far on the right side.
4 In the arrange window, click the enable button (you have first to open the left side of the window), and select the input from the button/menu below
5 if you click on the in button in the mixer for that track (on the volume scale, the very little "In" button, you sholud see the volume of your source
6 Now it SHOULD let you record your music...
If this don't work, it remembers me a thing...
two or more years ago I had the same problem, but with a cracked version of cubase...
:-) Hope you can solve the problem,
Rob
