Db,

What do the numbers 70,74,75 and 77 mean to you?
Hint. Remember this is the smack-talkin' forum.

Ha!

It's meant in fun, and I don't blame you for the "censored".
Actually, I'm a fan also. I remember Fran, Yaro, Marinaro, Chuck and others who's names are escaping me right now.
I remember Stabler, Griese, Bradshaw, etc. The 70's, what a great game.
You a Twins fan also?

No, not really, when I was a kid and baseball wasn't such a crappy business I loved it. I still love baseball, but I would prefer to go to a Saints game over the Twins...minor league ball is great, they actually play for the love of playing. After a few strikes because a couple million a season wasn't enough, I gave up on pro baseball. Actually, I love basketball as well, but it's coming to the same thing...the owners and executives are destroying sports. In the case of baseball, the players aren't helping much either.

I am sitting here in my office typing this surrounded by Viking autographs...a Cullpepper program, a Bennett poster and Brewer Poster, a Williams hat, mini-football and shirt a Beikert viking horn hat...I gotta love the vikes...life long Minnesotan, even though last season was a bust, they looked AWESOME tonight against the Raiders.

Boy oh boy, are we thinkin' along the same line with pro sports. I remember when a team stayed together for years. Oakland A's are what I grew up on, Reggie Jackson, I saw him his rookie year, the Raiders/Stabler...when he was a rookie and nobody knew him, he was at my little league opening day.
Then they all started wanting to be multi-millionaires.
I agree the baseball strikes killed me. I still try to watch baseball and just can't get into it anymore. This is a shame, because 80% of the players are great for the game.
It's funny, after I submitted my 1st topic, I went to the chatroom and was waiting for you.. Ha!
I'm going to bed now, have a good season db, I'll be givin' you h*** until the playoffs

That's cool, trash away, I can take it :-)

Ya, I can't even count all the baseball cards I still have from my youth, autographs (being a Twin I was ALL ABOUT Rod Carew, I have about 5 autographs from him, Killebrew, Verseliaze (spelling?)...oh BOMBO REVIERA! I still remember being 10 years old sitting in my outfields bleacher seats (that we got for like 5 dollars) chanting "Bombo, Bombo, Bombo", not that he was a great player, but because he had a cool name and he was a cool guy that loved ball.

2003, The Year of the Vikes! Opening day against the Packers! OH! My neighbor is a Packer fan and we are throwing a party, I am bringing a TV outside, buying a keg, having the whole block over for beer, munchies and football.

Nothing beats a good-hearted rivalry, ya got game? Bring it on grumpee!

It's funny, one of my best friends was a die-hard Vikings fan. In my youth before I knew him, I loved the Vikes, but my friend. he was over the top. So... as friends do, I started teasing him about the superbowls. I had more fun picking on him and the Vikes than anything.
Ironocally, now I have the Kings and Raiders.
In my youth the teams almost seemed magical, I remember going to an A's game and watching Vida Blue pull up to the game in a blue Cadillac, full of pretty girls. I could go on and on.
Nowadays it's almost more interesting to keep up with the offseason trades and drafts.

Ooo, Vida Blue rocked. Didn't the A's Have Rollie Fingers backint he day too? Great pitcher. Not to mention Reggie...The A's were the bomb in the "glory days" of baseball.

I am not really over the top, but Ihave fun with it, every sunday during regular season ('cept when it gets too cold) I have an 8' blowup viking yard display I put up staring at my neighbors house. By the end of the day the heighbor comes and hangs a Packer windsock on him...I also run a small site at www.vikingpreacher.com for the infamous "Viking Preacher" who has been vacant the last couple seaosns due to school, but when not too busy he preaches sermons of victory while tailgating in a long purple and gold robe to a huge crowd. He has become somewhat of a cult figure. Quite funny...and very fun.

I'll never forget that lucky-tipped-Hail Mary-4th down-no time on the clock -game winning touchdown pass the Vikes stumbled into vs The Browns. It was in the late 70s or early 80s I think. I hold a football grudge for a long time. We dont care too much for the Vikes. Did I mention how lucky that play was?

Well, I seem to remember the Vikings also loosing a game to the Packers that after a ball bounced off the shoulder of a Packer that was on the ground, bounced up, the packer rolled over, caught it, and since he hadn't been touched and the ball hadn't hit the ground, he got up and ran it in.

Every team has had they stellar wins and loses by very lucky plays...it's part of the game.

By the way, with a history of recievers like Cris Carter, Sammy White, Ahmad Rashad, Randy Moss and the like...our offense has been pretty much based on hail-mary down field touchdown passes, cuz we have always had quarterbacks that could throw 70 yards and recievers that can catch anything thrown within 10 yards of 'em.

And right now, tho 'pepper had a bad season last season, has proven he is capable of some amazing work. Our quarterback is bigger than many middle linebackers and can chuck a ball downfield for miles. His bad season last year was Tice's fault. Tice, when taking the head coach job (thank the Lord, Green was an idiot) tried to make 'pepper into this "thinking quarterback" which he just ain't. After he backed off and started letting him play by his gut, their season improved greatly, winning the last three in a row.

None-the-less, I still like Tice...he's gonna be a good coach.

A couplemonth ago the Vikes were hiring a new manager of IT too, I wanted to apply, but am afraid Red is gonna move the team in a couple years.

I love Daunte, it's like Larry Csonka and Franco Harris meet Fran. He's the QB I would least likely have to tackle.
All the great teams seemed to have a famous play or two. "The fricken immaculate reception" comes to mind. But I loved the Steelers at the time along with the Raiders and Dolphins so I just stood there with my mouth open and didn't know what to think.
Vida Blue, Catfish Hunter, Rollie, they were a helluva team for about 3 or 4 years back in the day.

Yeah, go for the number 1 pick in next year's draft is about all they're going for this year.
They're gonna suck.
