Hey Dudes! Recently, I posted about Wireless Headphones:Quote:
Jul 21, 2003 04:44 pm - I was thinking it might be a convenience if I bought a set of wireless headphones.
Well, I was in radio shack the other day and they had a pair of RCA wireless...Infrared. For only $20! Now, they looked like they weren't super high tech but I got them because I thought I might be passing up a good deal. Well, I tried them out and they sound just fine. No, they aren't super high quality...but they sound good for the price. And man...it's great to be free of my headphone wire! hmm, I just might go check those out tonight after work. Between my home network and now all my music gear there's way to many wires laying around. <g>

alot of people bust on headphone, calling them junk for mixing etc etc, but i feel like what does it matter what they sound like when you tracking? as long as you're not relying too heavily on them when mixing + mastering, so what? just listen to some favorite albums thru them, familiarize yourself with they're responce, and while tracking keep an eye on the dB meters so you don't clip etc etc.

Definatley olddog. Way to many wires going on in my music room too. Like I said, they aren't super high quality but they get the job done. Jamie, I agree...what does it matter how they sound...I mean, your just recording a track. My other pair of wired headphones are AKG's. About $100. They sound great. But for the wireless freedom, I don't mind sacrificing some quality. Don't get me wrong, the RCA wireless sound pretty good. But your not going to get that super crisp digital sound, like more of the higher priced phones. You know it's funny; I have a friend that buy's everything high tech. The more expensive the better. His house is so full of gear of all kinds...stereos, 3 big screen TVs, several amps and cabinets, 6 computers, tons of computers parts. Not to mention his incredible home entertainmant collection of DVDs and much, much more. But the funny part is...he doesn't use any of it. Maybe some, here and there. But most of the time his things sit and collect dust. I'm happy he can afford so much but I just think those who could put those things to good use strugle to obtain them. Life is not without a sense of irony!

You know the funny thing is in the 80's when I was recording alot I had 2 pairs of headphones. 1 was a cheap pair I paid under $50 for (might have even been RS brand) the other was a Koss set that I paid $150 or so for. The Koss headphones sounded much better and I used them alot just for listening to music, but I got much better mix-downs using the cheap headphones. It just seemed if the mix sounded good in the cheap headphones is sounded great on everything else.

It goes to show you that expensive isn't always the best thing for the job.
