I notice alot of effects processors and maybe other gear have both XLR and TRS inputs/outputs. Both kinds are balanced so is there really any advantage to using one or the other? Is it simply a matter of convenience having that option? Any personal preferrences?

Jul 27, 2003 06:07 pm XLR is the better of the two - for the simple fact that if you pull the calbe there's no way that you are pulling that XLR connector out. Also, plugs on XLR cables are much tougher and last longer.
Well, that's how I feel anyway :)

Jul 29, 2003 10:33 pm Mostly just preference and convienence for easy connection to whatever is on the other end of the chain. You might want to throw a quick eye on the specs however to see what the levels in and out are. Some use different levels for XLR than TRS assuming XLR will be mic and TRS will be line.
