Jul 15, 2003 03:14 am i've used it several times but i dont have it. my band's old singer is an owner. so maybe there's more to it than this, but this is the only method i learned.
i dont know if i'm using it right or not. one time i got what seemed like a good result on some distortion, but ultimately it takes more than just that. what do you want to use it for?
i got this method from the internet®
highlight the portion of the source wavefile that you want to steal the EQ signature from. open freefilter. click 'source.' both 'source' and 'learn' will light up. hit preview. watch the dancing lights. when youre satisfied that freefilter has read what you wanted it to read, shut it off by clicking 'learn' this time (it will stop learning) and then hit stop to stop the preview.
close freefilter.
highlight the destination wavefile. open freefilter again.
this time click 'destination' (i think that's the button, anyway) and then begin your preview. watch the dancing signatures try to overlap. see if you like the sound of the results, because that's what it's gonna do to your destination .wav file. you can let this preview run for as long or as little as you like. i guess it doesnt matter one bit. if you like the sound, hit process. and that's that.
my expectations were dashed on freefilter. but i'm sure i expected far too much. please let me know how it works out for you.

Jul 15, 2003 03:23 am is this the thing thats meant to rip off someoen else's sound and replicate it on your own stuff?
ore importantly, is it actually free?

Jul 15, 2003 04:56 am hmmm, it didnt get a great review, did it?
Jul 15, 2003 02:35 pm i guess not. it can only toy with the frequencies already present in your signal, i guess, which is why i can't get it to be really useful to me as a tone modeling device.

Jul 15, 2003 02:40 pm from what i read it seemed like if you wanted to get that sound of the entire song , it would "try" and eq you mix to what it thought you were trying to eq it to. If that made any sense.
Jul 15, 2003 06:16 pm it's probably best suited for use as a global EQ for final mixes, yes. i was trying to use it to copy distortion sounds. you could hear it working, but getting a good sound is more complicated than just using freefilter.
Jul 16, 2003 08:04 pm damn,I got the whole crew hatin free filter.i was just askin how it worked I thought perhaps I was usin it wrong as I was not hearing elvis singing my songs
Jul 16, 2003 08:43 pm haha what?

Jul 19, 2003 11:47 am well I got it to learn some tones, and i applied it to some of my stuff, then i uninstalled it.
Jul 20, 2003 01:14 am why did you uninstall it?
