When you're recording your song

do you first complete the "instrumental version"
and master that than make one track out of it

and Then do the vocals over that one track

or

do you make the instrumental version and vocals too and after that make one track out of it


hope it makes any sense :S :D

Personally, I keep everything on it's own track until EVERYTHING is recorded. THEN mix it down.

Yup, Everything gets tossed in the blender including vocals for mix down. Then the mixed down track gets pulled back up for pre mastering.
