What does change when I change the mic distance from the amp screen besides the room sound? I am having some problems cause I am using a Marshall with 20w that when I turn it loud it vibrates generating an annoying sound. Should I turn it a little down so it stop vibrating?

Any other thought regarding this topic would be nice. I would like to hear from you that record with small amps too.

Well, first I need to ask what exactly is vibrating? Marshalls in particular sound their best when cranked up...at leats tubes do, if your little amp is tube you will want to crank it.

Find what is vibrating and see if you can stop the vibration, otherwise you may have no choice but to turn it down.

mine was doing that...my little park (marshall with a different name) kept rattling and it was one of the little metal things on the corner!

i had a frustrating rattle from my Crate 45w 12" combo for the longest time. Turned out it was just the latch-style handle on the top vibrating on certain resonant notes. Now I just stuff some cloth under it and it doesn't happen anymore.

vibrations are usually caused by playing resonant frequencies. You may notice that the rattle comes only on certain notes. Sometimes it may be something simple as putting a pillow under the combo amp, or playing in a different key.

to answer your question about mic placement, I think you'll find that different frequrncies get picked up differently as you move the mic closer and further from the grill. It will be kind like turning knobs on an EQ, and in fact can be compensated and augmented with some EQ until you get the desired effect. -j

Try tightening all the screws, especially the ones that hold the speaker cones in place.
