hello.....i don't really know whether this problem has poped up in this forum but here it goes....i've actually recorded a track which is the rythm for the song...but I have problem recording the second track which I'm trying to record the lead melodies of the song. The problem is that while I'm attempting to record the 2nd track, it duplicates the first track into the 2nd track. I tried to mute it then which actually muted every sound which is no use as well. I just to need listen to the first track while recording the second track ie multitracking. How do I do that?

it sounds like you never unarmed the first track. when a track is armed it will record over or mix with (depending on setup) what is there. if you need to dub tracks then unarm the previously recorded track and add another audio track, arm it, and make sure the source is set to be the intended signal to be recorded.

Well I cant tell what sound card you have as its not in your profile. But if you are using a Sound Blaster or the like, you probably have the What You Hear or Line Out active in the record mode section of the sound cards control panel. You need to go in and turn those off and that will eliminate any problems. Or are you using a mixer and recording out of the main outs?

I had the exact same problem. my setup runs as--> instument->effects->UB802 mixer->audigy 4 sound card-> cool edit pro.

To fix this problem. double click your sound card icon in taskbar(or open from start menu), open the Mixer. there should be a rec(ord) meter that is set by default to "what you hear". using the drop down menu in the rec
(ord) meter choose Analog mixer if you go throgh an external mixer as i do or choose Microphone.

this should allow recording thraks without previous traks replaying

I am so happy I found this forum!!! I got a new computer with the Audigy 2 ZS in it. When I went to record using it, I had the same problem with track 1 going on track 2 as well. You guys are great!! My problem is fixed...however my playback is very low and the activity bars (as I call them in the tracks) are not as "all over the place" like they once were. WHat do I need to do to change that?! All my audio (playback) controls are up... Any help is greatly appreciative!

THe SB card should have installed a separate control panel that is similar to the windows sound control panel and you will need to go in there and turn up the input and output level's as well.
