reverb

i've always when mixing used the same reverb setting for everything in that song. i just adjusted the wet/dry levels for each track. i have found that not every body does this...i thought that it was like a rule to use only one setting. what do you guys do? i have found that the reverb for some instruments sounds awsome and then on the other instrument it dosn't.

Personally I just use the reverb that sound best with each given instrument, if applying at that level. Generally however, I like to apply reverb mostly to the mix and let each track use any reverb created during recording from Room ambience or added as an effect in the chain.

FYI, reverb uses a ton of processing power, so the less reverb you have running on a PC the better.

I don't ever use reverb plug-ins. I go outside the PC to the rack for that. I usually just add a bit of reverb to the overall mix, either that or only to the drums and guitars to give them depth. But as db said, it uses a lot of processing power, which is why I use outboard.

When you have a 2.4Ghz P4, 533FSB - you can run about 10 TrueVerb plugin's and still not break a sweat :)

Upgrading my PC was the best thing I've ever done in my studio - you will thank yourself after you've done it...
