i'm sure a few of the people here have heard this song. i heard it and i wondered how these guys could both write and record something like this. it sounds like substandard metallica at one point, and then like a bad garage band at another. that snare is mega irritating too.

does anyone like this song? why?

metallica is a band i lost respect for a long time ago. they kicked dave out of the band when they were really crazy, then they got too cool for the fans. cliff dies. There is no greater tragidy than death in a band. s#!+ gets hectic right so then they hire jason. tour a few months later. how could any living being converse or want to have anything to do with those 3 individuals after that affair? then like 12 years later they pull this we dont support people trading out music for free on the internet. we know they buy the albums because we sold over 20 million of them so far and out grand children will be eating with silver spoons but cliff burton didnt have any kids now did he? they are an act. i just dont like their politics and morlal decissions at all. there are millions of reasons why they just suck. pretty girls make graves rules.

MKF, that really wasn't his question at all...just a rant. Personally I could not be further opposite to your feelings on the subject, but it's been discussed here many times, so I will spare the repetition. If you don't have anything to ADD to the thread, please stay out of it.

Sorry Minkus, I have not heard that song, but I will see if any of my friends know of it, I really have to give it a listen. Is it officially released Metallica or just some bootleg?

it's official, but it might be a single for an upcoming album. KROQ has been playing it for a bit now. every time i hear that snare, i wonder if it's going to fly out of my radio and hit me in the face!

i could swear that the vocals are auto-tuned in some spots, but that is getting more and more difficult to tell as time goes on.

there's a bunch of metallica that i like. there's some that i don't. their anti-file swapping choice was probably based on some numbers that somebody put in front of them of how much money (estimated) that they were losing. i don't think they anticipated the backlash.

I did hear the track on 93X on their late night heavy metal show and Minkus is right on. The song is not metalica at all, or maybe they are trying something differant. Personally I like a lot of their stuff, but ther is some stuff I dont as well. If this is what the rest of their new album, if that is what it is is going to sound like, they are going to sell to only the die-hard fans.

And your discription of the snare is great, I laughed so hard. It does sound as though it isnt even part of the song. Maybe they were replacing a bad snare hit with a sampled one and it just never fit into the mix. It just doesnt fit at all.

dB, if I find it Ill let ya know, or should I say if Tony finds it. :-)

i used to love metallica, with and without cliff, but it was he who wanted to make me play bass.

i heard the new one on the radio, and i think it akes all the worst aspects of metallica and puts them in one song! i like the early stuff because of the energy, i liked the later stuff (up to reload) because of their swagger. james hetfield is so used to being 'the man' i think this is a reaction to numetal heaviness.

oh, and the lyrics...heavens above jim, learn some rhymes and new words!!

like i said, i used to love em...but this..

I am in agreement, I gave it three plays and still don't quite get it...I don't feel "the hook" of the song or anything, leaves me quite disappointed. Then again, it's like they are reverting back to their garage band days, which I never much cared for anyway, I didn't like Metallica much until Jason came on board, and honestly don't like them much now that he is gone...

Rather disappointing...

Metallica ..hmm ..has inspired so many , I started playing drums because i wanted to play like Lars , but as all phases that came to and end as i learned more and experianced different types of music . Metallica has had a nice long and legendary run , not many bands can say they've been in the spot light for 20 years , but now i see that light is about to go out .

Agreed on all counts. Geoff, did yo know that Lars didnt even know how to play drums when he joined the band? He just started hammering on them and that is what they grew with. He does have a unique style for what it is, but nevertheless, he did a good job.

And I agree, somebody pull the plug allready!

i like st. anger more than any other metallica song and i have heard em all, when your best friend is a metallica freak, you hear every album at one point or another in his car. for what its worth its not too terrible. Note that this is a biased opinion, and says nothing about the talent of the band (which i do appreciate, i just dont like their music in general). The only metallica song i really like, is a cover of a song i already liked, Bob Segar's Turn the Page, i think their version was quite original. Thats just my opinion, and i hope it doesnt offend anybody, just throwing my 2 cents in.

No pixel, Jason left over a year ago after he got sick of the stranglehold and Hetfield keeps on the bandmates.

I've heard that Jason Newstead is now the bassist behind ozzy, and metallica's new bassist is ozzy's old bassist. The old switch-arooney!

SWEET! Jason playing with Ozzy would be the bomb! The biggest mistake Ozzy ever made (and that is choosing from A LOT of mistakes) was punching Bob Daisley and pissin him off, Bob rocked and his music hasn't been the same since. Always good, and always rockin, but never the same.

Rob trujillo is too good for metallica, he has the funk, something used to the full in suicidal tendencies and infectious grooves, even ozzy when i saw him play with mike bordin.

theres no room for da funk in metal-ica. i'm sure he'll do a great job, and the money'll probably come in very handy.

maybe jason should've joined megadeth to foem the anti-talica!

i just heard the song for the first time. i can't begin to discribe the crapyness (for lack of a better word) of everything in this. at one point i think hes singing off beat...wtf is this...i never liked metalica and probley never will. i also think he says "st. anger around my neck" entierly way to many times. the snare reminds me of an old recording of my bands...only ours sounded cool and acculy fit in with the music. that thing is like playing its own musical pitch. you could like tune that thing with a guitar tuner! does anyone know who the producer was for this...

I would be guessing James H. had a very large hand in it.

James has everything to do with everything Metallica. As I understand he is a totalitarian dictator when it come to their music, image, promotion and such...but I might be wrong...

I thought Bob Rock was the man behind all of it , as well .

Bob Rock was behind the black album, as I understood it James got pissed cuz Bob wanted some control, James couldn't handle it and they wouldn't work together again.

Again, I might be wrong, not a huge Metallica fan myself, just some of the radio songs and stuff...

actually bob rock is behind this as well, as far as producing the album. what a disappointing album. i understand that with a band that has lost its touch, going back to it's roots could be a ggod thing, but why make it sound this awful. and that damn SNARE!!! thank god for triggers/sound replacement. what's funny is that this album probably sound just like it does to them while rehearsing, so they may think that its an accurate account.
