What are the best? 1/4 and XLR
I want something strong without crackles or buzz
Does cheap mean nasty?

May 31, 2003 08:04 pm as a general rule (unless you have some wierd wiring going on) XLR are of a higher quality because they will always be balanced (the signal is carried twice to avoid hum / phasing issues being incurred). 1/4" cables can be balanced as well (the TRS variety) - but mostly they aren't - that's fine for short distances, but above 10ft, things start to get a bit hissy, etc.
And I'm afraid that cheap does nearly always mean nasty...
jues.
