May 31, 2003 03:23 pm Thats a sweet deal. Is it a tube amp? That would be great for recording if it was since you could crank it to get the tube distortion.

Jun 01, 2003 01:01 pm Just a side note about small amps:
Back in the 60's I came across a small Alamo amp made in San Antonio TX. It's the Embassy, model-amp 3. I got it for next to nothing, its a tube amp with a 10'' speaker and is probably 10-15 watts. It's made of birch wood and has no vinyl covering and has this cool 'A' wood design over the speaker cloth. I've used it for years for a practice amp. I knew nothing about it. The speaker was cracked (It was the original Jensen) so I took the amp around to a couple of different places to replace the speaker. Every place I went the service guys wanted to buy it right on the spot. A couple of places (music stores) wanted me to get the speaker fixed and bring it back in so they could play thru it for a while and check it out which I did. The price they were willing to pay for it increased but I wouldnt sell it. Most agreed that this is a late 1940's model taking into account the original speaker and the sticker on the inside. Some think it was one of the first models The Alamo Co. produced. With a bit of reasearch I've come up with this:
Alamo Amplifiers
birch "A" cabinets
"1949/50-62 AMP-3/No. 2463 Embassy "
1950s-59 AMP-4/No. 2461 Jet
1950s AMP-2/No. 2462 Challenger
1950s AMP-5
by 1960-62 No. 2465 Montclair
I'll post a picture of it sometime and give you guys a laugh. But when i plug it in and turn it up you wont be laughing too long. Its got a very sweet sound .
