aardvark q10 versions

I have a Q10 version 6 that works and a Q10 version 3 that doesn't. The person I got the ver. 3 three from has a bunch of older Q10 parts and boards and offered to send a replacement part if I can determine which part(s) of the ver. 3 setup might be bad.
If both setups were the same version, I would consider inter- changing parts one at a time to try to find the faulty part(s) but I'm not even sure if the cable connections would have the same assignments which makes nervous about risking my working setup.
Any ideas on the different version compatibilities and the dangers of connecting working to non-working components?

I went with the Q10 for the 8 xlr inputs for live recording my bands mix (using an ART S8 mic splitter) because I got a good deal on it (limited income requires good deals). I'm trying to get the 2nd unit working because we're running 12 channels of mix. Are there other 8 to 12 channel options to the aardvark that don't cost precious limbs?
Thanks,
-Willy-

I had 3 x aardvarks ages ago. Thought they sounded nice, but they were such a pain in the ***, especially to link together. They were really hard to get in sync. Working on focusrite Saffire Pro 40 now that has been great.

Have a friend who's a great engineer and swears by the presonus 8 channel units. You can pick them up pretty cheap second hand.

You could also get a cheaper interface with ADAT and get a behringer ADA8000. They're supposed to be ok.

honestly...i would sell it and drop a little bit on something newer (with software updates and active tech support)..

i started with a Q-10...and miss it, almost...=)....hands down best bang for the buck in its day.

or spend a year making it all work just right.

First off, thanks for the replies.
I found another Q10 that works and have both attached to a computer I built just for recording. The only programs installed are the Q10 managers and Adobe Audition. The Q10s installed and seem to be doin' what they should. Now I just need to tweak the Audition settings to record in multi-trac (I can see it's gonna be a task but I' m making slow progress but have lotsa' time on my hands).
I did look into the Sonus unit but cheapest I found ran $300.00 - $400.00. I.paid a total of $235.00 for BOTH the Q10s. As I said, money's tight and this was the best option I could find for more than 8 channels.
Well, wish me luck and thanks again!
Willy
