Neve Pre amps?

Hi
A friend of mine suggested building a couple of Neve pre amps. A firm called "7 circle audio" do the boards to make an exact copy of the originals and he as an electronics engineer has the knowledge to put them together and get them up and running. Any one used these, would they provide any benefit in front of my mixer or straight into my sound card. I could probably get them built for very little money.

Nerve make arguably the best pre-amps in the world - however they are very, very expensive - a simple 8 channel board can run into many £1000's.

However, if you can get one built cheaply then by all means go for it - and give me their number when you are done :)

Yes, the last Neve channel strip I had to replace for a studio down south was not cheap to have done. It came from an early eightys console. They are by far the most sought after items, if you have the cash.

I would make sure he is going to use the same spec componants that Neve uses though. Since that is the essance of the sound of the Pre-Amp for sure. and they are hand built so you are in luck there.

If you can let us know what he is charging for them, as I would surely be curious. And who knows, he might be a good source for repairs of said boards.

Hi
Heres a link to the firm that supply the p.c.b boards and even a case if required. The transformer can be purchased from the original manufacturer who made them for the original Neve boards. My friend reckons once you've got the pcb and transformer you are almost there. I think the case could be the most expensive part. I think i will get one made up and see how it works and how much it costs. Could be interesting.
Thanks all

Thanx Vikki, appreciate the link very much, keep us posted as to how it goes and any other info you might think would be helpfull.

Yes the componants are what makes it. And if you want the high grade stuff it will cost ya. I think some of it can be crossed to generic pieces without too much loss of audio quality.

And case wise, you can modify that to suit your needs. Lucky for me I have access to metal fab shop so things wouldnt be so bad. We also buy tons of differant cases and boxes for this stuff.
