Can Someone help me get a good set up with this Equipment:

1 Crown 600XLS Power Amp
1 Yamaha Emx 5000 Mixer Board
2 Yamaha 15 main speakers
2 Yamaha 12 monitors
2 (non name brand ) monitors for the drummer
2 18 subwoofers

I get the basic concept of setting this up, but we needed 2 extra monitors for our drummer and It through me for a loop at a show. Also couldn't get a good bass sound for the subs, some mixing guidance with this would be gladly appreciated. Any help at all is appreciated. Please shoot me an email if you can help. Thanks

What other amps do you have? Or is the Crown doing everything?

OK, never mind. I see that the mixer is a powered mixer.

I'm still not sure if you have all of the pieces that you are using listed. Do you have a crossover? Are you looking for a separate for everyone? Are the monitors for the drummer 15" or 12"?

For your subs, you do need a crossover to give them the proper frequency range. Without one, you are sending full range to them. They will not perform well when you feed them everything.

For your drummer, if you are using 15" wedges for him, and you are also adding a 12" wedge for yourself. You will find that when things sound good for him, they will sound like crap for you. And vise versa.

Now, if you do want a desecrate mix for everyone on stage, you will need a separate amp channel for each mix. Plus, you should have a 31 band EQ for each as well. This is presuming the board has four separate Aux sends. Without four Aux sends, you're kind of stuck with whatever the number of Aux's it has.

Sorry I posted this alittle fast, the monitors for the drummer are 12s. And i forgot we have a peavey equalizer also. We have played a couple shows with this pa and all is sounding pretty good, for the size of the shows we play. We were just trying to add those extra monitors for our drummer and I couldn't find a good setup to do so.

So, is the full range going to the bins and the hi-packs? If so, and you like the sound, you'll LOVE it when you get the frequencies properly split and send the lows to the bins and highs to the hi-packs like you should. You need a crossover to do that...as Rob said...

For me, personally, that would be rung number one on the ladder to improvement.

Ok so i will be purchasing a crossover soon. The main question is how to I run 2 sets of monitors with this setup?

All you need to do is take a balanced cable out from the Aux 1 output, to your EQ. Then from the EQ (Balanced once again) to your power amp. The power amp then powers the first monitor, and then jump out of the first monitor to the second monitor. Repeat for mix two.

Now, a balanced cable will have two plastic insulators on the 1/4" connector. It will look like this.

You now use the Aux 1 and 2 to create your mix for the monitors. If you hear feedback in the monitors, you then pull the offending frequency out on the 31 band EQ.

In other words. Say the drummer is on mix 2. (Aux 2 out) And he wants more of his kick drum. You then turn the Aux 2 on the kick drum channel up. This will increase the amount of kick only in mix 2.

And just so you know, you can run two monitors on one side of an amp. Three would really be pushing it, but two is fine. All jacks on monitors are wired in parallel. So having a speaker cable in one side of the monitor, and having a second cable going out to the second monitor is the way to do it.

Sorry if I seem to be explaining things that you may already know. I just don't know what your skill level is. So, as a result, I figured that I should just go over everything.

I get exactly what your saying and I'm not an expert by no means, so sorry for all the questions but I have more. Ok so this is how we have been setting it up. Aux 1 to power amp input 1 ( yamaha monitors) , Mono Out to power amp input 2 ( subs ). That takes up all the inputs on the power amp. So with using Aux 2, I would need another power amp to run them?

The only thing that you can do with your present set up, is to run your system in mono.

This means that when your crossover arrives, you will have to take one side of your Crown power amp, and run the subs off of channel one. And then run your tops off of channel two.

This will free up the mixers channel two for your second mix.

The only way to do a stereo FOH, and two mixes is to buy a second amp as well.

I know the last thing that you need to hear is "Spend more money!". It's just unfortunate that this is the only way to be able and do more with your system.

Oh, by the way, FOH stands for Front of House. And is the speakers that the audience listens to.
