Simple routing problem, common with Sound Blasters...which are not meant to be used as recording interfaces...see if this helps in the FAQ's www.homerecordingconnection.com/faq.php#q10

ok. my set up is a yamaha mg82cx going aux to sb audigy. i have muted the "what you hear" but i am still getting the previous recorded track recording on my next tracks. is this possibly a win7 driver update issue? i cant figure out for the life of me how to stop it from doing this i have selected aux 2 for recording device as the default and in playback i have creative spkrs as default. in audition i have the settings for input and output as aux 2L. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

im not sure i get man, but will try.
so are you saying that when you record a track, then lets say if you have 4 other tracks set up under those, then that one recorded piece is going on to all?

where are your "input" and "outputs" routed to in your "project"....not outside audition... your audio tracks routing?

when i record lets say, main vocals on track 1 it's done i then go to track 2 hit record to lets say record overdubs and punches, it is recording my main vocals along with my overdubs. i have went into the the system volume control and muted all other devices that may be playing a sound "what you hear", spdif etc in recording devices and play back devices no luck!. i really dont know where thing went wrong.

regardless i have my mixer connected from the returns left and right to the sb audigy 2 pci card and the mixer stereo outs to the aux send from the front of the sb audigy 2. in adobe i have the inputs as aux 2L and the outputs as wav when in multi-track i have the inputs set to aux 2L and the out is master on all tracks. i dont get this at all. i then tried recording again and it seems that the volume of the previos track recorded is now recording lower as oipposed to the same level this all after i messed with settings as far as the windows volume system is concerned. maybe you can help me step by step reconnect and reconfigure this all. i greatly appreciate your time and effort in helping resolv ethis issue. again thanks in advance!!.peace.

ah ok, yah sounds like you might need to go to your DAW preferences and choose default if you dont have any major setting you put on you cant remem, ber how to do again.

but it sounds like its reprinting that track. im not sure its anything to do with outside sources its in audtion itself.

find "preferences" in Adobe and go over the whole thing and have alook, i would say its like an "auto dissolve" type thing....by this i mean i have it on cubase, where everytime i import a loop itll make a brand new track instead of putting on the track and position i want...so what im getting at is these silly frickn things are possible to happen on these bloody programs..

so my advice is to get friendly with the behind the scenes crap in your program...its a good way to get things sorted when things happen ya kjnow. if i can help any more lemme know.

why are you going back into the mixer after you go from the mixer to the soundcard tho?

is this so you can go back to the mixer where you speakers are connected?
If this what its for then you have arouting problem.

where are your "input" and "outputs" routed to in your "project?
have you read the manual properly, its real hard for us to know this product without having the manual or having it front of us.

I think you need to read that manual again man.
Does it say to do this the way youve done it? You said in that other post
"i figure i use that to a 1/4 in plug into the stero out of the mixer. i then have from the return s of the mixer i have 1/4 in to an 1/8 in to the pci portion of the sound card in the rear of the cpu??"

This to me is seemingly your problem,
Youre going "stereo out" to your Aux of your soundcard.
1stly. How are you doing that when the mixer has 2 stereo ports out and the aux on your soundcard has only 1 port.

2ndly, if you were able to do that, you would then need your software to be picking up that aux port as the input source, im not sure aux is and import to be honest i could be wrong.

3rdly and most importantly,
You are going stereo out mixer to the SCard.....then your going from the return of the mixer to the souncard.
returns dont work that way. A return isnt an audio output. send return is a loop system starting with a "send" running out of the mixer into whatever you wanna hook it up to ie; fx... then it loops back from that into the mixer (return). Its not for this application.

i dont get it tho you say say front panel of the audigy?? then the rear of the cpu? im not following at all. The SB2 is just soundcard with one panel only.

ok it mightve helped if you;d have mentioned it was working in that way before.

you would have to go over things again mate, im not suurte i use a mac couldnt say what is going on there...as dB mentioned must be a routing problem in W7.

hey bro not a problem, if it were me and i was only recrding max of 2 things at any one time i would bypass the mixer and just go usb from interface to compy mate.

You'll be loving that... will take out alot of un necs in between.
You may need help with that setting it up too but itll be worth it better all round IMO. Its not that big an effort to do.
You have 2 inpputs on the SB yeah? so you dont need the mixer, you mix everything in your software. problem with pre record mixing on a desk, is once you record with those settings yer stuck with em ya know?

at least with software you can change up a bit whenever you want.
lemme know if you need some help wit it all

When you upgraded I suspect Windows reset some native sound in the control panel...I'd look there, make sure it's set to use the Audigy and not some onboard chipset or anything like that (should one exist).

I will have to echo the spirit of Dematrix's statement as well...if you are only recording one device at time, or even a couple mono, I'd just pull the mixer out of the mix altogether...I finally admitted that a couple years ago and just sold my mixer...recording has been much more painless since...

I say sell the mixer, sell the audigy and look into a Line 6 interface with modeling or some such thing...but that's just me...I like simple.
